Title: milltek resonated or not?
Post by: mkviken on 06 October 2011, 10:12
I'm thinking about a milltek cat back exhaust for my gti

i like the look of the slash cut tail pipes.

anyway i don't want it really loud in general or boomy on motorways etc.

can anyone tell me how loud the non-res is compared to the resonated one?

thanks

also how is the fit and quality?

on the clio 197/200 there were a few quality issues regarding cracked welds on some of them

also does the OE pipe need to be cut after the cat or is there a joint/clamp which it fits to instead?

Ummmmm a bit . . . Im not really that familiar with the dB system. Try having a butchers on YouTube and see if there are any sound clips.

I've spoken to a few people on this and most suggest the quieter one, when I get mine it will be the quieter version too.

i would like it to sound a bit less choked up and the odd pop and crackle would be nice but i don't want the boy racer noise! I'm thinking a resonated one would be best for my needs.

so does the OE pipe need cutting or is there a joint after the cat?

Full racing Milltek with 100 cell cat sounds awesome especially when on the beans,
i dont think any Millteks sound boyracerish can sometimes be a bit boomey until you have put a few miles on them,
The GTI for me was a bit too quite i like to hear whats going on and the quality of them has really stepped up to what they use to be
Have a look at Mr Ps review on here

............x2. Resonated is not as loud as the standard system.

Ok thanks. If the non res isn't too much louder than OE then it's worth a look. It's quite a bit cheaper than the resonated version too.

I don't want the downpipe and cat as I don't want too much hassle with my warranty etc so a cat back system would be what I'm after. I know the best gains would be to change the downpipe and cat but I'm sure a cat back system would improve things a fair bit too.

Anyone got any pictures of their car with one fitted? Seen the various pictures on their website and the slash cut tail pipes look great

Cheers

A new exhaust is on the agenda is on my agenda too. Forgive my ignorance but could some kind soul please explain what the difference is between resonated and non resonated? I can gather from this thread that the non resonated one is the louder one but I would like to know what the physical difference is.
Personally, when I replace my standard one I would like it louder than standard (without it being boy racer standard) so why do I need the non resonated one?

Andy the difference between res and non res,
The exhaust comes in sections, resonanated has a silencer box midway down the exhaust, the non res has a straight through piece of pipe instead,

seen your wheels on ebay.

you live not far from me as it happens!

thanks for the opinions. i think if/when i go for a new exhaust it will be the non res with the slash cut tail pipes.

car only has 300 miles on it so will wait till its run in a bit before i do any mods

So non res for me then.

Does it sound appreciably more juicy than standard then?
