Anyone would think that with unemployment being so high that agencies would have loads of people on their books at the moment !
I am looking for a warehouse operative for 3-6 weeks work due to one of my staff having a motorbike crash. So far the agency have come up with 2 people and i just met one of them & lets just say i don't think he will be coming to work here.
How to give a bad first impression would be defined by turning up shaking my hand like a wet bloody lettuce  (obviously it wasn't just that )
Hoping the one this afternoon is a lot better !

maybe you scared him......
Im available to work.
-
Yeah, you would have thought there would be loads! We always needed temps @ TNT / CEVA because there were always drivers or drivers mates who were ill, very rarely did we struggle for temps and if we did one of us warehouse lot would be sent out
-
i'm starting temp warehouse next week up until xmas
-
I've got another guy coming in this afternoon not as much picking packing experience but does have a forklift license & is good with computers which is helpful as our system is not the easiest to use lol They have said if he isn't suitable they can send in some more so will see.
-
All sorted was pleasantly surprised with the 2nd guy he starts tomorrow morning  my only concern was he was a little short lol but can't be heightest  (reason being our pallets are 2500mm high so being taller helps when stripping them down)

Where's that Health and Safety card when you need it? :lipsrsealed: We weren't meant to have them past our heads

How small is small?
Manlett?

Everyone is small as i am 6ft 4 lol i think he was about 5ft 5 ish maybe a little taller lol, funny he is the same height roughly as the guy he is temporarily replacing.

 would cost us a fortune in transport costs if we never went above head heeight & who's height do you go by, just employ a 7ft er then everything is finelol

temps arent what they used to be anymore, just shows the next generation of school leavers really, they either turn up in designer gear and dont know what to do, or cant speak english and dont understand what youre trying to tell them to do, either way, you end up doing the job yourself!
we have a school leaver at our place as a drivers mate, the 3 main things we need from a drivers mate, one, pick up boxes, two, to wrap a pallet, and three, to push a pallet on a pump truck, this kid cant do any, he doesnt even turn up wearing safetly boots as he doesnt own any

If he doesn't own any i would say your company is responsible to get him some, if there is an accident you will be liable.
All of those listed sound like training errors, proper training & i am sure he would be fine :lipsrsealed:

btw not all temps are bad, most of the temps in my place work harder than most of the perms.
if you only want a temp for a few days how can you expect them to know the job when they turn up
-
my company no longer provides work boots, they used to offer £15 towards them but thats stopped, as for training, that kit has had plenty, hes just f**king useless! lol

That was our point as we sometimes had temps in that were either short or tall, the permanent staff were all around the same height give or take an inch but the contract manager almost blew a fuse when he was asked that by one of the guys who he wanted shot of

Debatable, I think most people can be trained but does help if they want to be trained !
