Title: Lets see the power of R-tech
Post by: MaXXeH on 04 October 2011, 10:42
As some of you know, i had some massive problems with my "custom" remap  from AMD, the car would never run right! So cut the story short I got a full refund from AMD, and they left the map on the car .

So now r-tech are going to give my car a proper custom remap  ( looking forward to the results)

I dropped my car there yesterday morning and nick was delighted to see how clean my car was

Engine mods
BWA engine:  S3 injecters, K04 turbo , Evoms intake, THS IC, HPFP, Neuspeed K04 Hi-Flow Turbo Discharge Kit and Neuspeed Hi-Flow Intercooler Pipe.

All I found out was

Uprated coilpacks  :undecided: certainly weren't standard......
HPFP
Forge Actuator bolted to the standard turbo (I'd assume some other tweaks too)
Forge DV
Forge Twintake
Forge Intercooler
REVO Stage 2+ map and REVO DSG software
Turbo back exhaust

Possibly one or two other bits  :undecided:

IMO that make it one of the highest recorded power runs from a TFSI with k03?, I most I have seen was 282bhp with HPFP, Thats Awesome power it pulls and pulls.   I wonder If I could get a TFSI turbo to fit my AUM head? :smug:

@MaXXeh
My aim for tomorrow is to get full linear control of the fuel rail pressure and boost at around 280bhp, once the engine, ecu and I am happy I will start to wind the power up to 340bhp over the next 2-3 days.   Tuning this combintaion for peak power is every easy, its the part throttle and low end mapping which is a pain to get right. The aim wont be peak number just a broad power curve with lots of area under it.

The mk5 gti I tuned last week with full ko4s spec and engine made 340 bhp far to easy and had to be tamed closer to 315-320bhp as it was running happy shopper LingLong tyres...pmsl and still had a cat in play.

Update.

Boost pipe fail..lol

Got fuel and rail pressure mapping about right, which seems to have stopped the bad missfire which the stock and old map had across the whole band.  Started to rescale then n75 mapping to allow the k04 to work the the 2.5bar maps sensor, without this the boost will become uncontrolled and climb at the top end of the rpm(which was the cause of the limp mode on the last mapping)  got the car running 270lbft 320bhp @1.2bar on a basic custom map which is seeing the boost follow the requested line. The peak load request is sitting at 184% which for some reason I cannot get any higher request at the moment, I think there is a map or axis in your software which is capping the load, I have found one of the axis on one of the torque maps is set t0 180% So I have rasied it and need to test and log in the morning. A part from the its fast as feck and very smooth.

i thought that boost pipe would fail at one point, bloody dum that connection.

Happy to hear it is going well mate .  I do have the other map sensor if it makes anything easier.  I was thinking can we have it spiting flames and popping   I like righting a few granny’s off lol.

You can have the car for as long as needed i am having fun killing the mk4 (i forgot how bad they are standard)

Ps, did u see if them air filters made any difference?

That boost pipe was bad by design, I have re-engineered the alloy joiner so the OE clip fits in flush and cannot come out.
I dont think there is a way to get pops and bangs on the ME9 ecu as the fuel strategy is nothing like the ME7 setup, when tuning for power we use the homogenous fuel mapping to make power at a richer rate, but the combustion is that good its hard to dump a little fuel.  There are fuel realted maps for shift points which could be use but might only work with DSG? If I get the back log of jobs out I will take a look for you, What number cell rate sports cat are you using

The 2.5bar maps sensor will be fine, (it would be a total pain to setup in mapping, maybe only way to do it would be use an ed30 ecu?)
I am not going to run a spike of boost I will aim for clip 21psi and hold just under it to get around 300lbft over most of the torque band, where a stage2 map for HPFP on a oe k04 car would peak 23-24psi.

cheers for fixxing that alloy connecter, i was going to give it the chop if it blew. If you cant get it poping not to worry just thought it would be a nice extra, it roars when you floor it anyway  :smug: I think it is a 100cell sports cat.

I will see how i get on with this power and if i get bored i will rebuild the engine and put a gt28rs(or better) on the old girl and find an edtion 30 ecu.

The car also has a polar fsi+ unit so if you can work out how to change the menus on the dash,  it will give u a sh!t load of info.

keeping within the 2.5bar map sensor range I have managed to get 330bhp 308lbft so far..   Just fine tuning the KRKATE map which I was on about and looking for the other day which in theory should be 13% less for the S3 injectors, fuel trims with out this changed was -16%, now down to -2%.

Its about done dude.... and its fast as feck to 7227rpm :smug:   I will be seeing you next week.

Just been out to do a logs... nice cold damp air and its off its nelly and the timing CF went down to -3/-4cf

Idle fuel trim -0.5%  (was -17%)
fuel long term trim is now at -2.3% not bad seeing it was -25% before..lol

Just clippig the max off the map sensor at 2580mb which I aint happy with at the moment another 6% of the n75dc in that window is going to get it to 2500 so its in range.

finish off tomorrow am on the dyno just putting my findings of the logs from today in to map tweaks and  thenfinal power runs, then you can collect when your ready m8..

I just want to see the grin on your face

that map sensor is a pain sometimes i wish i just dumped the s3 engine in (+ ecu could of had it for 1k)

The water meth should keep it down to -3/-4 (or less)when it is warm.

I will probably pick it up thursday, got a track day on sat

Well all finished now, remapped and full courtesy valet.. :grin Sad to let this one go back to its owner.

A bit of a task this Mk5 GTi with S3 turbo/injectors and HPFP.
The hard part was getting the fuel constant via the air flow correct so the fuel trims are within reason, and the injectors not dumping fuel as the turbo is spooling.  Step1 re-scale injectors on a stock map and set the rail pressure maps to work with the HPFP, this took around days of trial and error testing and logging.  Next step was to tame the boost and make sure I had full control, the first thing I noticed with running the k04 on the k03 mapping was that under load at higher rpms the boost would creep off the scale, I would ask for around 2250mb, the ecu would ask for the correct load and boost but becuase of the k03 n75 mapping being on a lower scale the n75 realted maps would allow too much duty cycle.  So it was another 2 days getting the boost correct and with in maps sensor range and having the n75 act for the k04,  it got the the point that the actual boost was running 200mb below the requested line... at this point I had safe control so time to wind the n75 up in increments to give a little spool up over boost which just clipped the 2580mb map sensor and fall back to the requested boost 2400-2300mb. Next task was timing nice and easy to get a base point as the S3 timing maps and scales fitted in place nice..  now just a matter of keep adding the timing in until the ecu started to pull back on the correction of the car stopped making any more power.

I have really enjoyed doing this job as I was taking a lot on doing it, but knew with enough time I could get it bang on. I had no aim of chasing peak numbers, just a car that pulled and pulled like a bitach to the red line.

The final result was 335bhp 310lbft @270.25gs..... £80 woth of fuel used on the dyno and road.

Well what can I say? Nick pulled off the challenge! The car is f**king fantastic!

First impressions! One very clean car thanks to a full valet, that is what I call customer satisfaction!

Nick collected me from the train station and gave me a little blast down the road and she pulled like a train! Was rather impressed but could not wait to have a go myself!!  I jumped in and took it for a blast! Fook me it pulls all the way to 7000RPM and holds the power all the way! I could not believe this was my car!

On the way home I shocked a fair few cars and it was cracking to see their faces!!

Got home and took the Old Man out for a spin,  and he said “bloody hell this is stupid, take me home”

Thanks again Nick!!  5 stars!!

With the maf unplugged it sits in generic mode of around 346gs then reverts to using other sensors, in most cases having the maf unplugged on an me7 / me9 ecu the car will make a little more power..  The 3pm job today a stage1 custom mk5 TFSI made another 20lbft 12bhp with the maf unplugged, albeit the maf was over reading and causing fuel trims of around -12%.  I have seen in the past a good maf unplugged will make a little power gains.

Just dont let her drive it, make her take the bus...
