Title: Uprated Suspension
Post by: Ash J on 03 October 2011, 21:47
Hi guys,

Was always into my dubs having owned a couple of Polo's when I first passed my test etc, and then bought a 306 and naturally moved into french car scene for last 8 months or so (I know, what was I doing!), anyway have since sold the 306 and am just driving my Caddy van around at the moment, but will soon be the owner of a Mk2 GTi 8v.

The car I will buying is completely original, and I would pretty much like to keep it this way except for a few upgrades, one of those being the suspension. I will be keeping it on the RA's and am looking for about a 40mm drop. My budget will be around £500, and I don't know whether I should go for a suspension kit, such as an adjustable Koni sport suspension kit I have seen, or for a cheaper coilover kit, something like an AP kit?

Suggestions anybody? Can't quite afford to have a KW or equivalent coilover kit, at least not just yet, so am I better buying a decent suspension kit, such as the Koni's, or a cheaper coilover kit (I believe AP are actually made by KW).

Appreciate any help!

Ash

For 500 quid you could do alot but I wouldnt spaff it all on suspension. I would go for Koni damper and spring set if all you want is 40mm

Coilovers require maintenance to stop the collars sticking and the threads rusting.

As above go for the Koni kit especially if you're sticking with the RAs.
