hi all got a mk4 1.8t its standard as far as i know just a force feed induction long tube down to near side bottom vent with big filter car doesent seem to rev right has a delay like so foot down .. power so its a highly noticeable bog/ delay just woundering if anyone else has had this sound like something a cheap induction would do ? runs okay when its going took down a (private road ;) ) and went okay 100 in 3rd so not massivly under power dont think just bought a boost gauge to have a look if its running correct boost standard around 7-8 psi i THINK so iv read on here . or im not sure if could be a boost leak ???? any advise ? cheers
-
how much of a delay we talking? just turbo lag?
had it scanned to see if theres any codes?
-
no dont think so as its at low low revs turbo lag more at like 2k isnt it ? and well i think its induction as makes noise then goes and not yet mate will do havent got round to it yet we have diagnostics are work just havent had a chance to get it there as car is currently stored somewhere else as using other car for insurance reasons , also idles funny :/ supposively just had full service not 100% tho mate ever had anything like this or heard induction casue this also someone said maybe maf is getting confused :S
-
I know it sounds silly, but have you checked what the filter on the end of the induction pipe is like? May be dirty or bunged up with crap.
-
i did look at this before its pritty shagged well the top has gone rustyso that cant help it !
-
scan it
-
MAF i recon
or the induction kit is not helping, I have heard they can lead to flat spots.
-
MAF i recon
thats what my guess would be
-
i put my induction kit on mine the same one as your saying about on standard car and no probs but then the maf migtht not like it try unplugging it and try that if it runs better your maf has broken im afraid haha
cheers
-
Longer the tube, the less the throttle response.
Noticed this alot when mine was down by the grill!
Put Cone straight onto MAF and see if theres any difference, i bet 99% you will.
Chop your tube down abit and leave the cone next to the battery..

+1 as above i did the same ,much better and sounds good.
-
Wrap it!
Along with all the other aluminum as that has brilliant heat conduction properties. I'm running a long tube and not having any problems. But I have pipercross panel filter in the air box with a 2.25" pipe coming out the airbox and coming out just under the horns.
-
copy mine and daves setup ,you will love it and wont go back to panel filter or induction kit by horn.I tryed both ares are much better.Try it you can easy put it back to your horn with a silcon joing pipe. But get a new filter the ones that come with the ebay kit is only a £9.99 filter crap and is 2 big to put next to battery.
-
Would of thought there would be loads of heat intaking that high and far back by the engine?
-
Try it, the sound rules  i use a jr filter from france got it second hand never used £30(rated 250bhp) get a cold air feed from bumper vent were your arce filter sits .Ill find my video i think i put all the air filter sizes in desciption .I wanted a green need a open end filter not sealed if you know what i mean (has a extra filter in the end).
-
20 degrees offset, Size in desciption. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RO8zgB8U670 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RO8zgB8U670) Dont knock the video filmed by xbox 360 camera

Ive said this before, but some would argue that cooler air after the turbo is more important.
Im pretty sure my intake temps would be lower due to a FMIC than a induction kit in the vent with standard IC.
Turbo's superheat any air that passes through them, i know the colder the better to start with and all that but meh..
I have a cold air feed running to mine and i doubt theres hardly any difference tbh.
The alu pipe coming from turbo to intercooler = hot,
the alu pipe coming from intercooler to inlet = cold.
Longer pipe and much slower throttle response was worse than a couple of extra degrees intake temp.
Nuff said i reckon
-
We will have to get my Turbocharging formula book out as we need to calculate underbonnet temperatures and chuck an ambient air temperature in with a turbo compressor efficiency of 75%
Wouldn't have thought pipe length leading to the turbo would off been a restriction in a forced induction setup, after the compression I can see it being an issue due to the volume off air needed to be filled followed by pressurizing.
-
Lol im not too hot on the theory behind it, but i know for a fact that when i had the long pipe on and filter behind vent, i had a VERY slow throttle response which is what the original poster was on about!
Im VERY happy with mine where it is, and im sure he will be too!
Try it bud, filter on the tube end, then directly on MAF, amazing difference!
Thats why i think i have a happy medium, far enough away and with cold air feed so it gets reasonably cold air, but short enough for rapid throttle response!
Just my 3p
-
3p, crikey you have some weird change
Will give it a go once golf is repaired, been working like a mule and another 2 weeks to go  plus trying to sell things to get some money to repair the golf. Will give it a go as I have loads off aluminum piping laying around that I could do with selling some.
You got any videos off that exhaust as I am debating it
-
Hi all cheers for your posts I'll try the air filter directly on MAF if not may have to be new maf ;( they ain't cheap as for inductions don't really wanna cut n shut em lol anyone rate and specific induction kits or standard air box with panel n 2-3" feed iv noticed alot of them ? Cheers all advise highly appreciated
-
Ok ok calm down, i HAVE got a video of exhaust but the sound quality is soooo bad on fone it makes it sound awful!
Smartfone my ass lol.
Once i have found charger for n95, a video will be up for all to see!

Cheers for everyones help my induction is a fair amount longer I'd say near on double length of one in picture goes right down to bottom grill can't even see filter from bonnet open so that must be causing a delay ? But I can't remember it doing it before the car has been left for a few weeks someone else said possibly fuel could be sh!tty but I hear Vw maf sensors are fragile I was for air boxs and someone has a smoothed air box anyone got any ratings on these ?????
