Ok, so firstly I must say a BIG thanks to Craig & Nick for allowing us to host the day @ Carbon and for all of their work on the day, next up massive thanks to Nige for working tirelessly throughout the day.
Finally thanks to Chuff for getting the ball rolling (even if he did drop out & leave me to do everything )
The day started with a refresher for me & Nige on how to work the dyno, my car was the guinea pig for this and produced a measly 180bhp  We unplugged the MAF and power immediately jumped to 187bhp suggesting that the MAF was to blame. Nick made a call to GSF & reserved a new one to be collected later in the day....more on that later!
The first car onto the rollers was Bacillus' MK5 Gti:
On the last RR day in April this made 267bhp, estimated power this time was 290bhp. The car returned a rather impressive result:
The benchmark for the day had been set very high!
Next up was Scott v6's Seat Leon Cupra R:
Estimated power was 270bhp due to suspicions of the car having previously been remapped, as it turns out it is putting out stock power:
However the power curve is extremely good and boost is held at nearly 20psi which the guys at Carbon are going to look into at a later date
Following this was Danny's beautiful Mk5 Tdi:
Estimated power was 140-145bhp due to a custom code remap, the actual result was very close:
More to follow!
-
I think that following this Rhyso's dirty Aldi was placed on the rollers, I say think because Craig & myself went to collect my new MAF!
Rhys refused to predict his power output
His actual result was:
After Rhyso was Ben's newly converted VR6:
Predicted power was 180bhp and the result was extremely healthy:
The next car on the rollers was Brad's simply stunning Mk3:
After fitting nylon spacers between the spring coils to raise the car enough to get it on the rollers the next issue was the car trying it's best to jump off the dyno making it difficult to get an accurate power reading. Nick & Craig managed to add additional straps and eventually got a reading. Bearing in mind this is just a generic map & is still awaiting custom mapping it's a very nice result! (Brad predicted around 235bhp)
**I don't have the dyno plot for the car & need to speak to Brad to see if he wants the result published but it was about the predicted figure!**
Much more still to come!
-
Looks like a brilliant day
Awesome result Mr Rhyso
Big thumbs up to the Carbon lads once again then :afro:
-
Ok, so I think I might have got the order a little muddled up! Before Brad was Jonny with his Polo G40, after Craig stalling it about 7 times it was finally on the rollers & ready to go:
Predicted power was 135bhp, the actual output was considerably higher!
Again I can't really remember which car was on next, I think it was Matt's Caddy:
Predicted power was 155bhp & 250lb/ft, actual result:
Following this was Adam's A4 (no pics...yet!)
Adam was a bit optimistic & predicted 187.3bhp
His first few runs produced a measly 170bhp(ish), after a few dyno tweaks it was back to what it should have been:
-
I must apologise for the lack of pictures in this post! I was busy working the dyno so didn't get much chance to take pics, hopefully someone else will have!
I think that this might be in the wrong order (again!) but Gav's red Mk3 8v was on the rollers around this point in the day! After predicting 118bhp (a slight increase on the 114bhp previously seen!) we got it on the rollers.
This turned out to be a very accurate prediction:
Will's Mk3 8v followed:
He predicted 119bhp which was slightly over the completely standard result:
Dom's Mk4 Tdi was next on the rollers. This was an interesting one, it was a 110 non-PD engine with a £99 eBay chip. Predicted power was 137bhp.
When the huge amounts of smoke finally cleared, we could finally see a black floor and the computer screen! The chip seems to have worked extremely well!
Last but by no means least was Mike's Mk3 16v. With a cold air feed, performance filter, sports cat and exhaust this is one of the nicest sounding cars on the day. Stock power of 150bhp was predicted.
The result was good with a very nice graph!
After this everyone f*cked off before my car went back on the rollers which is probably a good thing
The new MAF made no difference to the power so I'm still running 185bhp & 220lb/ft which is down about 20bhp & 25lb/ft of torque on it's last run :undecided:
After driving home without music on order to listen for any potential boost leaks I'm 80% sure I can hear a hissing when on boost so the car will be back at Carbon in a few of weeks for full diagnostics

An assortment of other pictures from the day:

It's a real shame this couldn't go on the rollers! A Bi-Turbo S2 engined stock looking Passat putting out near 500bhp!....what a sleeper

Finally the two items which have fuelled me to write all of this up:
-
Also I scrutinised Brad's car and found a flaw

great write up there Dom

Was a brilliant day overall, VERY tiring but I enjoyed all of it. Massive thanks to Carbon for letting us have the run of the place
-

Cheers, it'll be better when I get more picture (hint hint Nige) and if anyone can clarify the running order I'd appreciate it

They actually trusted us to completely run the dyno without supervision at times...I feel special :smug:
-
Massive thanks from me to nick and Craig (you know what for)
Shame my car did not want to stay on those bloody rollers yet again!! No point putting up thr graph as all it shows is where the slippage was. However the best we could get with the slipping was 242bhp which is not bad considering.
Had a good day and nice to meet some faces
Can't give enough good words about nick and Craig, absolute top guys!
Dom the mat in the car is a overmat for work ;-)
-
Good stuff everyone :afro:
Dom - I DID predict my output at 195bhp
Massive thanks to Craig and Nick for putting on a great day and to Nige and Dom for their hard work getting the cars on and off the rollers
Although my thanks to Nige has diminished considerably as I had to give him a lift back through Manchester just as Man Utd finished playing......got stuck at a set of lights for 30 minutes
-
Great write up Dom, looks like it was a good day.
-
Your all brilliant, what a great day with a great crew
Some good results but that BAD beastie of Brads got the better of us again.....
Log log log Dom my boy and we'll get straight to your problem ( actually I already know the problem - you didn't buy a TDI 150  )

-
A good day and some very nice cars there
Was hoping to get the Jetta re-mapped and on the rollers but after finishing work at 4am then working on the car swapping wheels etc till leaving to make the way up I was just to tired to hold on but looking forward to getting a Carbon map on the car.
Good work to the organisers and staff on the day.

Thanks mate
Would have liked some time to have washed and finished polishing the car but I only learnt of the day when I finished work as Matt (Caddy van) had text saying there was spaces on a rolling road day so I desided to have a run up with him and topher
-
