my car overheating on Thursday and boiled all of its coolant :( got a new thermostat for a tenner fitted it which I must say is a lot easier than i thought and it nice and cool again :) the breakdown service kept saying it probably head gasket but when it over-heated the radiator pipe was cold so obvs no water going through and no it gets hot :) so glad it not head gasket :) and thanks guys for the advice and guidance :)

You were lucky to not have done more damage.

This. Happened to mine and caused the headgasket to fail. Just keep an eye out for the tale tell signs for a while

i am keeping close eye on it :) first time it has ever overheated so im hoping (touchwood) that this will be end of problem :)

thermostat housing went yesterday :( just replaced and running fine again :) did sh!t myself a little bit when it overheated though....

Should have replaced it. It's common for the housings to go after you've unbolted them as with age and heat the plastic goes brittle.

i know i was stupid :) but seems to be running fine and cool now :)
