Title: Setting up new car
Post by: mkviken on 30 September 2011, 21:54
Just got my new car today

I've had a play around with the settings on the dash and got the home lights, interior lights etc more or less how i want them. (do i need to flash the light when i get out of the car to activate see me home lights?)

a few things i want to do but I'm struggling to find in the handbook...

1. i want to activate the dipped wing mirrors while reversing but the instructions in the manual don't work/dont give me the right options on my dash.

2. i want the alarm to beep when i lock the car. I'm sure i saw something about it in the handbook but i can't find it now!

3. i can get the windows down by holding unlock on key fob BUT. when i lock the car with the windows down they stay down... how do i activate the windows to close when locking the car?

4. does my car have steering lights? how do i activate them? my clio had them and they were great.

5. can i get the doors to lock automatically when i drive off or do i need to press the button? (anti hijack)

thanks in advance

Which model of Golf do you have and do you have the Highline (where you change the settings / navigate the menus using the buttons on the steering wheel) or the Midline Multifunction computer?

1: You need to set it up. Then leave the mirror knob set to the left mirror. (curb view only works if you have the luxury pack)

2: Think this is dealer or VCDS setting and not on the dash setting but this may have changed.

3: Do they not go back up if you hold the lock button down? (Its delayed abit) if not im sure its in the manual / dash display.

4: Steering lights: If you have xenons the options on the display (it moves the xenons). If you have a GT (steering fogs) is setup from the factory. If you have a GTI you have to get (steering fogs) setup by the dealer or VCDS.

5: Yes its in the dash menu and shows you in the manual.

thanks

mine is a gti

i have the the steering wheel buttons to navigate the menus.

i don't have the luxury pack (i don't have electric folding mirrors)

maybe the windows do go back up when you hold the button. will try tomorrow.

there is an option in the set up screen for locking auto on/off. maybe it has something to do with this.

You have to hold down lock and the windows go up when you're holding it down and stop when you stop.

Yes mate, set it up in the MDI and make sure you have the mirror switch set to the left and it will work.

I am pretty sure you cannot get your wing mirror to dip unless you have the luxury pack.  Though I may be wrong.

You don't need the luxury pack, it will work for sure and doesn't need Vagcom to fix it

Once you have sussed out the Mirror dipping ?
While it is dipped use the toggle to set it where you want it to point to and it will go to that position everytime

Mine does not seem to sadly  Ive done what the manual says i had to but it still does not seem to work for me.
There was some odd builds happened with the mk5 because of spec levels in other countrys and i have read that in some contrys with the mk6 that if you spec parking sensors you get the dipping mirror too.

tried tonight as per the manual (says leave it in position R) and also leaving it in position L and it definitely won't work on my car.

my car doesnt have the mirror lower option on the convenience menu which the handbook says you need to access.

oh and i don't think my car has bluetooth after all. pretty strange IMO not to have specced that on the order form when stereo, DAB and dynaudio were ticked.

Do you have rear parking sensors? You need them for the dropping left mirror.

Unbelieveable - I'd just assumed mine didn't have this function on it! Tried it this morning and hey presto, dipping passenger side mirror

If you don't have the luxury pack or parking sensors you will not have the mirror feature.
