Title: mk 4 tailgate!!!!

Does anybody know where I can get a cheap tailgate for my '99 1.8 20v?
Mine has got rust forming around the bottom where the glass is supposed to be sealed in due to some idiot badly fitting new glass.South Hereford VW will charge me £270+vat to repair it,and nobody locally is prepaired to tackle the job!!!

scour the scrapyards...

when i got rear-ended vw wanted a stupid amount for the tailgate and it had to be ordered from germany.. with a 3 week wait.

£70 from the scrappers with the glass and wiper motor included (if you're lucky you might even find one the right colour)

Just wanted to know - dont the uk mk iv` s come with a 12 year ant-corrosion warranty like the South African Models?

there is a paint/anti-corrosion warranty .. but it will be invalid unless the damage caused by the badly fitted window was done by a VW dealership.

I tried getting it repaired at my local VW dealer under the anti-corrosion warranty,but they were unwilling to do it,saying that because it had had a new rear window which had fitted incorrectly,the warranty would not cover it.
