Hi, my 08 GTI Edition 30 had a new steering rack within the first year, (usual creaking juddering fault), my car is now out of manufacturer warranty but I took out the full comprehensive vw extended warranty for an extra year, expires Mar 12.
Thing is the steering has started knocking ever so slightly on full lock (reversing in car parks etc at low speed) and also with the car stationary and runnng if you lightly move the steering wheel from side to side it knocks, which leads me to think that its not the top suspension mounts which alot other folks have suggested. It sounds like a steering rack issue again, not the same fault as last time, but more like the joint from the steering column.
Anyway the car is in the dealers, and they have said they have found a fault but they cant pin point it, and the ext warrarnty doesnt cover diagnostics! they want 2 hrs labour costs at £250 to diagnose it!
Im slightly p@ssed off to be honest. Any suggestions?

Hi...I would like to know if you finally found a solution to your problems...
I have also changed the steering rack and the top mounts as well but had no improvement...
