Title: Air con compressor...anyone get the goodwill offer?
Post by: ron bagley on 29 September 2011, 21:11
Pre 08 GTI's had compressor issues and VW apparently often make goodwill gestures on price to cure air con issues. Can anyone confirm?

In my case no , when it failed it shredded the belt and dumped a load of 'swarf, in the system
The dealer discounted a couple hours of labour and small amount on parts, as the car had been with them only 4 weeks earlier for major service and I suggested that perhaps they should have tested for the issue or at least made me aware.

My car had full vw service but was not under warranty

Interesting...as mine had only been in a week earlier for the cambelt/water pump change. Before that, it was fine?!

hmm - mines going in next week for major service and cambelt/ pump replacement (2007my) - is there any way of knowing the compressor is about to die?

Been told that vw will go 50% towards the cost...but it's usually a grand...wtf??! Can't shake off this uneasy feeling that it was fine until after the garage had it..but of course, it can't be proved can it!

Have a search for my poll about this and also the update thread. Lots of cross linking and also a good outcome for me.
