Just to mix it up a little, I get 450 miles to £85 out of my mapped bm 535d. 50/50 town/motorway.

It depends on the traffic and how im driving as theres big differences depending how i use the car and oddly time of year as the traffic density seems to change so much in the city center certain times of the year. So like others im  :lipsrsealed: My tank averages have not varied to much though.
Theres plenty of previous threads to answer your question about mpg.

Now that it has been unceremoniously and constantly drummed into all and sundry how economical the rattle-trap Diesel engines are compared to silky-smooth petrol ones, may we in our final throws of desperation and boredom from reading the endless extolations of Diesel engine economy hopefully assume that Diesel owners may have realised that they have inadvertently purchased a truck?

Ah, but you helped with the correction. So I merged the two.
Imagine the noise those tructors make ploughing up and down the motorways.
New business opportunity: Earplugs for the petrol drivers.

I hear the GTD comes with some new options...

Snowplough attachment for the front and a grit spreader for the back.

Also a number of farming attachments, the combined plough/seeder being the pick of the options.

It has to be versatile for all the racket it makes.

This is a good guide.

I was with a guy today 10plate gti non dsg 18's lives near a motorway but drives like a hero. Over the 27000 miles he has never ever reset the computer and it said 32.8 mpg.

Post by: mkviken on 03 October 2011, 16:29
on the dual garage way home i was getting 40.4mpg when it was brand new

i have done nearly 200 miles now in heavy traffic and country roads etc and I'm averaging 32.4 or something. I'm pleased with that as my clio 197 was around 26mpg all the time.

once the car is run in i would expect it to get even better.

Wasn't really trying when i did this. ~11 miles into a 14 mile daily commute.
Average to a tank normally works out at around 34mpg due to heavy congestion on the way home. The previous commuter mule i was using, a TDI130 was doing ~44mpg per tank.

So we have summarised gti mixed driving 30-35 mpg? Snoop you must of been coasting that gti at 50 mph to get it in that region.

Post by: Snoopy on 03 October 2011, 19:17
Not really i have lots of sets of traffic lights to go through on 99% 30mph limits on the way to work. That was the first stretch were i would have stopped once (papershop) and hit 7 sets of traffic lights. Was not trying that hard until the last mile before that photo as i realised how low the fuel was. The last few miles after that photo is were i have to cross through the centre of town with all its lights and crossings etc which is what kills my fuel consumption down to ~40mpg or less. If i drove it to the gear change lights only and used lighter throttle it would have done better...

First tank new dsg petrol car I got:

35 @ 85ish mph over about 15 miles (following the docs mapped and faster GTD getting 52.6)

Then

41 @ 70 for about 20 miles

Then the rest was showing off with mostley Driving fast.

It averaged 26mpg 280 miles £70.

This info is also eye watering.  If we had no fuel duty or VAT then we would pay 48p at the pump.

Have to say I'm pretty impressed by the mpg according to DIS.

Majority of my driving is short distance (4 miles) commute for which the car averages 29mpg,  admittedley I nevr thrash it from cold so am short shifting to work and back each day.  On a long run based between 85 - 90 it records 37mpg.

Not bad for a claimed 275 bhp daily driver.

Well impressed,  previous K04 based S3's and TT's all averaged 22 and 32 on the same cycles.
