Just a couple of thoughts and experiences from my install...

If it's a new install rather than replacing an older version then it's easiest to wedge behind the head unit. Just wrap it in some foam to stop any rattles.

I removed the climate unit but DO NIT unplug the airbag lamp from this or you'll get an error until corrected on VCDS.

Hope the above helps and may already know this but thought it'd be better to share

i thought the bluetooth unit plugged in under the seat or can it also go behind the dash ?

Thanks for that I have got VCDS so, not worried about it (clearing faults e.t.c. and installing it), although I will try and remove as little as possible as less rattles.  Its a new install, and had read somewhere about bunging it behind the radio.  Although I like the idea of it being under the seat so no rattles, I think the first thing is to test it works then install.

The looms is long enough to go under the seat, but it means removing loads of trim.

As far as I can tell from this http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Telephone_Retrofitting (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Telephone_Retrofitting) Its the second from the bottom in the table. So fingers crossed it works, I think european model and no external aerial.  Looks like build week 22/2011

Thanks for the help but I have short legs so the seat is forward, so hopefully you wont see it any way.

I've bought the same one as yours, rev G. Would love to see some pics of it in action.
I was abit unlucky on my eBay purchase, as I have some cable missing, once that sorted I'll get mine installed too.

Looking forward to see how you get on with your install. Good luck

I will get the camera out and take pics/movie this afternoon.  You didnt get it from spain? missing the mic wire?  I read some others were missing the mic wire, but mine turned up with it.  Well I hope I have all the wires, only one way to find out.

You weren't bidding about 10 days ago were you.  I thought the mic wire would be missing and was amazed to find it in there.  I don't think the RCD-510 does voice, but not sure if its the bluetooth that does it rather than the radio.  Not sure what the extra white connectors are for mind? Look like extra mic connectors.

Right got it finished, took me three hours (which included a ensure theres no rattles test drive), lucky it was nice and sunny.  A few coding issues too (or should I say a few things to code).
The radio trim was very tight, I must have spent a good 30 minutes being careful not to break a single clip.  Roof trim came down easily, and microphone clipped in ok, fed the mic wire across the roof to the visor light hole, once the light was removed.  No need to a ruler or wire it seemed like there was loads of space, just waggled it around until I snagged it in the hole.  Removed the jesus handle and lowered the roof lining to get the wire out by the door, then fed the wire down the back of the A pillar trim (next to the windscreen) to avoid the airbag, without removing the A pillar trim.  Fed the wire down the gap in the dash between the A pillar and the dash, then down past the fuse box and along into the radio bay.  Fed the bluetooth module wire along the dash to the fusebox and then down the side trim removing the edge between the dash and the door pillar.  Then along the sill trim which I pulled up to unclip three of the clips that held it on the sill then under the carpet to the airbag wiring hole where it popped out and plugged into the box under the seat. Unplugged the blue media connector and inserted it into the bluetooth wiring breakout.  Shoved all the wires in the hole and slide the radio back in. Gosh that makes it sound easy.  There is surprisingly a large amount of room to get arms, fingers in.

Then VCDS:
1. Gateway (19)/Coding (7) - Enabled 77 in the long coding helper for telephonics. (Coding E9807F06100 6 12000003 there are no gaps the 6 used to be a 2)
2. The telephone module (77)/ Coding (7) had to change to English UK (2) instead of English US (A), had to disable Mic fault diagnosis and the control module diagnosis, also had to change the 3 button controls to inactive as I do not have the roof controls.  This removed all three fault codes. (Coding 0200000000010110)
3. Steering Wheel (16) / Coding (7) - Had to change the 5 to a 7 to enable the voice commands button on the steering wheel (Coding 0000732 the 7 was a 5) I have cruise control.

Either way it seemed to work with my Samsung Galaxy S2 although it read the contacts out the phone book using the radio is gibberish (well the names are ok but the numbers are crap and it fails to dial all of them).  Although if you use the DIS screen in the dash it works perfectly (weird).  Had to pre-program the 5 memory slots, cant get rid of number 1 annoying as I dont have a voice mail. (any ideas?).  Also cant edit the phone book manually to sort the numbers on the radio (annoying any ideas?)  Voice dialing can manually be added using the DIS by tagging contacts with a voice command.  If you just say something it that isnt tagged it attempts to make the best guess.  I tried Mum and Dad and they both retrieved them in a list to select. Impressed.

My mum sent me a text to the phone and it tried to send some bluetooth audio as it came up on the screen enable bluetooth audio which I did.  Then nothing happened. Although looking in the phone I have just found a driving mode, which can using bluetooth audio read emails, text, accept commands and facebook people, with loads of other things.  So it will be interesting if I can get the phone to do this using the bluetooth module.  I think there will be some playing tomorrow.  Either way I couldn't find anything in the system for SMS messages so can only assume it doesnt do them.  Not sure why the phone is green and white on the display either, since everything else is Red and white.  (any ideas?)

Only rSap enabled phones with support SMS (mainly Blackberrys and Nokia's).

The colour of the phone screen is fixed to green too and can't be changed.

Plus you'd need an external antenna if you were able to use rSap?

Mine has an external antenna and gives texts in the MFD and reds them out etc, also works with rSap on my Nokia 8800 arte and kit works with my iPhone 4 but not texts or rSap - anyone any idea which kit I have as I'd like the same for Mrs Docs Tiguan

Thanks and sorry for hijacking

Craig your kit is the 3C8 035 730A unit There 5N0 035 730D is the same unit and can be had cheaper now from Ebay, roughly £95-£100 you would just need the wiring loom.

Great job mate...
This is getting me excited to work on mine... can't wait... :nerd:
questions..
- did you have to swap the mic connectors for RCD510 on the wiring loom as showed on the pdf manual on the previous posts?
- voice control works on RCD510??...
- was the length of bluetooth wire btween module and radio sufficent?

to answer your question earlier, no I was not bidding 10 days ago..haha

Yeah Doc i am using an Iphone 4, but I also tested it with my Nokia 6330 and still the same.

The fitter blamed it on the Alpine Imprint Im using with my stereo, so it was a choice of remove the Imprint or
Fiscon.

The Fiscon had to go

Its been flawless if I'm honest.

There is a patch of road I drive through while going to work and the phone always drops the call at this point so when I'm coming up to it I'll say to whoever I'm on the phone to that I'll call them back in a minute or so.  Virtually everyone I Initially said this to couldn't believe I was driving!!

I put that down to the Golf tho rather than the Fiscon   Its a Blackberry Torch I use (if it makes any difference)

My mic wire was already wired like the PDF diagram for the RCD510 but yes make it the same as the PDF and you will be fine.

You can voice dial people - you can use the DIS to tag recorded voice statements to peoples names.  It will also make its best guess and give you a list of suitable people to dial.  It also has commands for A2DP media play back i.e. if you press the Mic button the steering wheel and say "Music" and "Play" it starts my Galaxy S2s sound player and starts playing my ringtones. via the A2DP.  Now this is where it gets interesting as I found that if I stop the media player and start vlingo on the phone It will then read me text messages/email I receive and I can use the navigate functionality from google maps/vlingo app.  How cool is that.  Its a little clunky but can work.  Only problem with that is that you cannot listen to the radio/media/cd as you are supposed to be listening to A2DP music.  I think if you then switch back to radio/cd/media it will I think ask you to enable bluetooth A2DP when a text is received (on the radio that is) as if it detects the bluetooth audio attempting to be streamed at it.

The bluetooth module cable is more than long enough to go from the radio bay along the dash, along the sill and under the seat with a small coil under the seat.  The mic wire needed about 10 cms more as it dragged the cable into the radio bay a little.  Although I think if spent the time ripping out the a pillar trim then it is more than long enough.

The only thing that bugs me at the moment is the fact the radio cant dial from the phone book as the numbers are all jibberish yet the DIS works fine.  I am thinking that the newer 2011 RCD510's might have newer firmware for decoding the newer 2011 bluetooth module.  Need someone to scan there RCD510 mine is

Although I have to admit I never looked at the coding of the radio (yet).

Also what I want to do is stop my samsung from loading the music player when commanded by the car over the bluetooth and load vlingo by default, but I have no idea how.  Maybe gonna have to write my own app to intercept the command.
