Title: Rear Wheel Bearing troubles

It looks like I'm in for another nasty bill - so I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and can hsed some light on costs etc ...

One of my rear wheel bearing has fooked up and where it's got hot the hub nut is solid on the stub thread. The wheel still turns fine but u can see the bearing have fractured and with the caliper off the quite a bit of play (not suprising really !)

So once the hub nut comes off and providing it actually comes off I'm guessing it'll be new bearing and rear discs ....

Does the hub carrier have to come off to get the disc out ??

Has anyone ever had any experience where the hub thread has been mangled ??

I've got a local Dubber who runs his own garage lined up to take a look as i'm expecting the worst and things not to want to come undone etc.

Whats people's verdict on this - I can see it costing quite a bit !

Could be costly.
Sounds like you might need a need stub axle as well.

IF the nut is solid on the axle try heating it to get it off and then when still hot use a decent breaker bar to snap it off. I doubt its actually welded on there from the heat.

You have to remove the caliper carrier to get the disc off. depending on how bad the discs are you could get them skimmed to remove any scoring that is evident on them or just stick a new set on as they are fairly cheap.

Worse case scenerio is a new stub axle.

Cheers for the replies - turned out to be a new stub axle  :cry:

Still its all sorted now - new discs / pads / bearings on both sides and a new stub axle on the drivers side. The last guy to change the rear discs had made a right old mess of the carrier bolts too - not a nice job  :grin:
