Hi - Following 22 thousand mile service my rear tyres are making a terrible wobbling type noise. The VW garage told me they have distorted inner edge? How come, why would this happen? Only had usual (loud) road noise before service - always seem to end up with a problem when it's been in their garage
Anyway - I need new front tyres so thought I would change all four. At the moment the car (Mark 6 GTD) has Potenza RE050 225/45 R17 91W tyres. Although the grip has been good they are noisy and I would like to consider alternatives. I want an all round tyre that would be reasonably good summer and winter, has good grip, and is quiet. - I know I want the earth  ! Will not be buying from VW.
Has anyone any suggestions?
Thanks
Ann

Thanks very much for that. Just wondered, is there much difference between W rated and Y rated tyres - (present ones are W) So - would it be ok to fit Y. (sorry - complete novice at this kind of thing :embarassed: )

Ann
Y rated up to 186 mph
W rated up to 168 mph
Your car's max speed is far below either of these figures.
Get the cheaper of the two.
The Goodyears are in a higher league to the Bridgestones in every way.

Thanks so much for all the information. I phoned my local kwik fit and got a quote of £650 for 4 Goodyear Eagle F1 A2 tyres. I then went on their website and got them for £510 including fitting, balancing, valves & VAT
Anyway - won't complain about saving money. Thanks again

Ann:
Glad I was of service to a lady forum member.
This place is un-fashionably too male dominated and tends at times to be a moron fest. It would be a breath of fresh air if you would post from time to time. It's nice to read posts produced with clarity.
Please give us your views about the Goodyear's performance.
I, for one, would very much like to hear from you.
Take care,
Asker

I've used MyTyres for years and Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 (http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?suchen=Ordern&cart_id=54464328.110.22562&ranzahl=4&Breite=225&Quer=45&Felge=17&Speed=H&Transport=P&dsco=110&Herst=Goodyear&sowigan=So&last_sort=preis&kategorie=6&sort_by=preis&Ang_pro_Seite=50) are from £97 at http://www.mytyres.co.uk/start.html so those seem a bit expensive.

The 94Y tyres are more expensive than the 91Y ones by £7.90 per corner at todays prices. This is to be expected.

Ann,
Just to confuse matters.
There is also the very new Continental Sport Contact 5, which tyre fitters rate very highly. No UK reviews available.
