Who has the most well-travelled GTI?
Berlin is the farthest I've been.
-
Wow! That's some road trip!
-
90 miles is my longest trip - 45 each way

Wow! That's some road trip!
1500 miles return trip.
No roof box this time.
145mph was the max due to traffic.
The GTI is not very common in Germany although much loved, same as here.
Loads of GTDs though
Probably due to the fact that disiesal is cheaper than petrol over there.

74 mile round trip to work and back

Mines 10.
Probably why I've not gone to the dark side.

Though I am too embarrassed to give you my results, I will bite this bullet. 22 miles each way, 44 miles round trip, from Kings X to Heathrow.
Today, I hit 5000 miles only after 1 year and 6 months of ownership. For 3.5 of those months I have not driven the car. Never done such a low mileage on any of my cars but I have a very valid excuse. I have a faulty left shoulder which will be fixed on the 25th October. Again the car will not be driven for 2 months, post operation.
Lucky person who buys my car in 2013 as things stand.
Next year, hopefully, I will take a long European trip. London to Rome through France and return through Switzerland and Germany. This should make up for the present lack of mileage.
-
I have taken mine to Helsinge (Denmark) twice.
I did cheat though and took the ferry from Harwich to Esbjerg, still a 200 mile drive across Denmark and an absolutely massive bridge.

Bonnie has been to Devon a couple of times but she was a bad girl and managed to get her owner done for speeding  So don't reckon she will be going away for her holidays again for a while unless she promises to behave.

Bonnie has always been a good girl egged on by a very wicked woman who cannot control her limbs. However, being practically banged up for doing 38 mph in a 30 mph zone verges on the ridiculous. Jealous, small minded and vicious I call those who treated you thus. There's no justice in this world and the law is definitely an ass or an arse in this case.

1000 miles in mine to lake district loads of driving around and back to London without any problems what so ever , my tig didn't even break out in a sweat !

Hello Folks
Been a while, I am actually in Africa sans GTI at the moment and logged in for a fix of GTI goodness. Really miss the Golf at the moment as I am doing some long journeys across Southern Africa and I can't shake the feeling of how much better they'd be in my car.
I worked out that in the last three weeks I have driven almost 9000 kilometres but that's in a Volvo which isn't the same. I would kill to have xenons out here as you need it to spot the potholes and there is virtually no street lighting. Sigh. Only another week till we are reunited!
To keep this on topic, furtherest journey is around 1,600 miles in the GTI - London > Northumbria > Scotland return. No problems of course but without a clean for a week or so driving in various conditions, she did start to look like she had been in for a Mad Max makeover.
Cheers
Alex

My longest journey is newcastle to London to see the tennis at Wimbeldon, then returning via Oxford. A round trip of around 700 miles. Total milaege since new in April 2010 is 9900 miles averaging out at 132 miles per week.
-
Hello Alex, was wondering where you'd got to.
My longest trip is my only trip. 140 miles at 39mpg average partially using Morrisons 95 RON.
-
@Alex: Nice to hear from you. I guessed you'd got back to your roots.
-
At the beginning of September I took my left hand drive GTi to Exmoor and back, total round trip of 1,700miles via the Eurotunnel on the way there and back on the ferry from Harwich. Performed admirably doing 36mpg including a lot of high average speed autobahn activity, including a brief spurt up to 135mph when the road was empty.
Generally quite impressed with my GTi, a good all-round car that is growing on me - doesn't really do anything fantastically, however it does everything very well.

You should have dropped in on me on your trip, I live quite close to Exmoor.

Thanks Asker & Exonian.
The one thing I like about driving out here is that if you get caught speeding, it's a US$20 fine irrespective and there isn't a point system, there are no speed cameras and the place isn't festooned with traffic cameras. I've never been done for speeding as I take it easy due to the state of the road. The possibility of large animals stepping into your path - braking for a grey donkey or Elephant on a grey road in heat haze is probably one of the most challenging road hazards.
I am really looking forward to getting back into the GTI, it has to be said. A Volvo XC70 is a good vehicle but I'm bored now.
-
Probably one of my longest trips was from Preston to Berwick, via Leeds for a quick visit to Darren, about 240 miles.
Lovely drive that day and I think I averaged about 45mpg, according to the MFD, sticking to 65ish.

It's sometimes very tragic with PLT as they are definitely NOCD. Two such creatures spring to mind.

Amanda, I am so glad you agree.
Such sickening cheapness of attitude.

In my ex-GTI last year in Aug I did Milton Keynes-Karlshamn (southern Sweden) - Warsaw and back to the UK, all driven except Channel and Baltic sea ferry. About 1000 miles each way (24h stint). 140 mph (indicated) on Autobahn. 96p/l for 98 Super at BP petrol station in Warsaw:) Good times...
The R will travel to Sweden to some winter fun for Xmas and then next year to Malaga for some Spanish sun
