Car just been to VW dealer and they said it needs airbox changed as there's crack in it. Quoted £240 for it!
Does anyone know if its an easy job to do? its MkV Golf Gti. Thanks

Does it need changing, as it depends where the crack is? Is it the airbox part itself or the cover as these are prone to cracking (usually near the oil filler) and it's normally the dealers that do it when they take it off for servicing?

I can't imagine it would be a very difficult job to do, I certainly wouldn't pay a dealer to do it.

As far as I'm aware the airbox is incorporated within the engine cover. Don't know how much a new cover would be but I would imagine you would save a fair bit by fitting it yourself.

Great guide there. Id buy it and give it a go myself (depends how confident you are?). It all goes south then just take it back to the dealer. Have they given you a price for just parts? Dealers hour rates are daylight robbery.

Thanks for the guide, might just leave it.
It just says 'air box broken requires new air box 232.!'
i know that there is a crack on the engine cover near the engine oil in but been like that since i bought the car. I might just leave it.

If the crack is not too bad then just put a little silicone over it, should sort it for now.
