Title: crime doesnt pay! my ar@e doesnt it
Post by: robiwill on 23 September 2011, 12:04
Right about to rant

Back in April of this year came into the yard to find we had been hit yet again by exhaust CAT thefts. only three cars this time but still.
So checked the CCTV and watched the low lifes working there way around the cars. They left in a silver Clio. Reported to Police and rang around see if anyone else had been targeted. No but one garage had had a trigger of there alarm and as they had been hit so many times before had NPR cameras instaled and picked up the reg of a silver clio.
Result so when the police arrived took statements watched the cctv etc. They took the reg down. They had a suspect!
Arrested the person who owned the Clio found cutting equipment in the clio. Came back to us requesting the ends of the exhausts the cats had been cut off from so they could test them to see if they matched.
They did!

So we have positive id and evidence of theft due to the match of the metal fragments on the cutting equipment. Have further evidnce in that the clio had flashed up on council cctv in the area at the same time. Also the person concerned has prevous for it.

So today get a phone call from the police saying CPS not going forward with it as no evidence........

Like what the fu@k do they need!

So yet again crime does pay!

Police wont give me the address of the person concerned either

You can bring a civil case against them. Also bring a complaint against the CPS.

a civil case against a person with a criminal record for a £1 a week if found guilty sorry not got the time or money to waste. I pay my taxes for the police and a victim of crime. Been hit 5 times in the last two years for cats. Spent 3 grand on CCTV alarm linked to the police excess is so high not worth claiming. try now to keep cars with nickable cats inside and just leave ones with minicats outside ie KA's Fiesta's etc as they cant get at them.
Complaint to the CPS I could but complained before about an issue with response to an alarm call and just got fobbed off so is it worth it.

Just take it on the chin yet again

Read this and compare it to what they told you about "lack of evidence"

http://www.cps.gov.uk/publications/docs/code2010english.pdf

...and if you fell that strongly about it, bring a private criminal prosecution.

The police don't decide who gets charged or not with cases like this. It's the cps who decide. It sounds like the police did a thorough job but the judicial system didn't.
