My door has slightly drop and the door slightly hits the door catch. Is this a common fault and does anyone know whats causing it so i can fix it..??
-
it'll be a bit of wear in the door hinge pins easiest option is to carefully put a jack under the door and jack it up a bit
-
Very very coomon
I put the jack under the door around the puddle light and jacked it up and jumped on the sill to bend it back !
-
Risky kent
-
Yeah block of wood under door, jack back up, pikey fixes are always the best

bout quarter the way down page mk4 door drop

mines also dropped, obviously a common 3-door mk4 problem, mines dropped about 15mm, its actually rubbing on the frame as i close the door and taking paint off on sill
ive been advised not to do whats been mentioed, ie, put washers behind the lower hinge (as this will put the door out of sync) or jack the door up (as bending the metal will make it weak so it will only drop again)
what other options are there?
-
only other option really is find a mk4 thats being broke that hasnt got dropped doors and get the hinges or new hinges
-
this happens on my 5dr unfortunately it is a common fault with age because their heavy doors & the hinges get weak' but there is a temporary fix.. put a 10mm socket in between the lower hinge & go to close the door, dont slam it! just put a bit of pressure on it & let go & again & let go about 10 times do this & take the socket out.. look at where the top of the dr lines up with the rear & u'll notice they've matched up again  its just temporary fix that'll last a while but they will drop again  i cant be bothered to replace the hinges so i use this method every few months lol
-
how can both hinges bend though?
my drivers door card is alco broke (the mounting clips) but as the door is knackered, this will just break the new clips as well
-
common fault ,heard lots of people have this.
-
Just done mine with the block of wood and jack method  worked a treat.
-
yeah, heavy old doors on the mk4, just like heavy everything else. only way to stop it happening again is to strip it and fit plexiglas windows..
only route to take imho...
