Title: Bumper sized problem
Post by: NoLimitAndi on 23 April 2005, 02:52
I don't know how daft a question this is, but i'll ask anyway. I want to get rid of the big black bumpers on the GTi and replace them with tiny mk1 chrome jobbies, on the front at least, the back I'm still puzzling over, how difficult would it be?

i think you'd have ajob getting hold of a set of chrome mk1 bumpers for starters without spending stupid money.  then fitting could be a bit of a nightmare. not saying it couldn't be done but its not the easiest thing to do.

It would be a lot of work mate, ive got a Mk1 Caddy and Mk2, ive looked at them both with the idea of swapping bumpers round aswell.
Although my Mk2 is a J-plate with Big Bumpers already fitted, im wanting to go4 Old skool mk2 look with small bumpers.
my advice is do what im doing, go down a scrappy and buy a pair of tidy 'small' bumpers for Mk2 1.3, then you can buy Chrome pinstriping stuff to go round the bumper. Black Bumper with Chrome strip at top?

I always thought that perhaps if you smoothed over the metal bit of the bumper (the bit underneath the plastic skin) then chromed it then it'd look good...thats only through my imagination though, not sure if you could actually do that lol
