anyone on here got a mk2 golf with a mk4 1.8t engine in? or something simelar?
im sure theres someone with a mk3 golf with a 1.8t engine in ?
if so.... could i borrow your reg? just wondering what insurance is like on one?
if your ok with me using it to get a quote and dont want to post it all over the internet pm me. cheers
-
are you only using online insurance quotes?
-
doubtful you'll get a quote online even with the reg. Most online systems will probably refer you to the call centre instead :afro:
-
You need to try some specialists companies.
Brentacre or greenlight

well il start off online as its easier but if i have to ring up i will. just want a rough guess at how much iit would be. as if its cheep then ill sell the curent car and try buy one, if not then ill buy a mk2 or something simelar with a knakerd engine strip that out then get a mk4 engine and install that and build it up over the next year or two untill i could afford to insure it.

A reg number isn't going to provide details of the engine swap though.

A reg number isn't going to provide details of the engine swap though.
It will if the owner has told the DVLA what engine it now has in it, as you should do when you change anything about the car including engine and paint colour.

Paint colour is easy, fill in the changes section with the new colour and post it off.
Engine changes require proof in the form of a receipt from a garage for either the work carried out by them, or for them checking the work carried out by you.

The above will mean nothing to the insurance company though.
Example - Subaru flat four swap into VW camper - it might be 2.0 instead of 2.1 but it could have three times the power.
DVLA won't hold that information.
Insurance company won't be able to join the dots to make that connection.
What you should do for a starter is tell the what the vehicle is and what vehicle the engine has come out of. In my experience they will also want full details of all of the changes made to the car, so make up a list of what you're going to do and mail it over to them when you start discussing the conversion.
If you're under 25, good luck with it!
