Title: battery cable
Post by: Dan_GTi8v on 22 September 2011, 13:50
I'll be moving my battery to the boot soon, what kind of amps will be going through the positive cable on a 1.8t? I was thinking 170amp cable would be good but I'e been reading some starters can pull up to 250. I know this would only be at cranking but I dont wanna risk blowing myself up!

would 170 be ok? next up is 240amp welding cable, but thats pretty beefy and the 300amp battery cable is even bigger, like 12mm OD (and expensive!)

cheers :)

its usually diesel starter motors that pull that kind of ampage, im pretty sure most petrols are around 75 amp. anyone confirm?

Look for a BMW in a scrapyard that will give you the cable you need.
