Has anyone opted for a modified diff set-up on their current GTI?  I have noticed with the increase in power (Revo Stage 1), the car suffers from excessive wheel spin and lack of traction when pushing it a bit. 

My tuner recommends the upgrade saying it will minimizes wheel spin and improve overall handling of the car, eliminating torque steer, etc.  Particularly on a FWD car like the GTI.

I would say,  save your money and spend on other mods, i.e. exhaust, air filter and intercooler. LSD isnt really needed till silly powers of stage 3. I find stage 2 fine in the dry over here but in the rain its a different story but thats expected. Maybe need better tires?

A couple of people on the mk5 board had a quaif diff fitted. Like said above you need/ideally need to be running much more power for it to really come into play... by this I mean it will reduce torque steer but you will be hard pushed to eleviate wheel spin. The diff really comes into its own when accelerating around a bend iirc  :nerd:

I will offer a differing view...if you want a car that goes fast from point A to point B then a diff makes more difference that willy-waving big power figures.

I have a Quaife Diff on a 200 BHP Mk3 GTI and it made a huge difference...much more so that adding 50BHP did, where cross country pace is concerned.

But, a quaife Diff won't stop wheelspin off the line - you will just spin both wheels...it will however, kake the car WAY faster out of corners, once you calibrate your brain into accellerating into a corner.

I agree with Ess three it makes a difference.
But when i read about wheel spin and traction problems i always think is it the car or driver?
I have no idea of anyone heres driving experience but imo alot of people could do with going on a proper driving course to learn to drive the car correctly. It from experience makes far far more difference then More Power.

I concur with Glen's and Geoff's posts.

I had a Quaife equipped 3 Series which I purchased from Birds. The Quaife transformed that car.

Money spent on an LSD will be money well spent, as already outlined in previous posts.

If you can't get the power on the ground there's no point in escalating the BHP.

I had a LSD in the Mk2 and it was amazing. Powering into, on and out of corners was just awesome.
