Hmm dunno, seems to be a mix of prices.

Just wondering if anyone has one they know is good prices, if not I'll just take it to whoever offers the most after phoning round a few. Which yes IS the answer but I'm lazy.

Ring around on the day you are all loaded up and ready to go then get it down to them. Also try work out how much weight you actually have. Keep plastics/rubbish/wood out of if, or at least visible or they simply class it as 'contaminated steel' and try fob you off with 2/3rds of the price.

Cheers for the tip.

Will strip the plastics out and put all loom wires and copper etc in seperate bags then.

Just burn all the plastic and wiring then sling the metal in the shell.

Do this at your own risk too, the smoke is thicker and blacker than anything from wiring  :lipsrsealed:

Well depends.  If its all cut up then you can take it onto their weighbridge.  Provided you know the empty weight of you trailer (tare)

Just gonna tow it in on it's back wheels hooked up to a trailer ball. :)

If I threw an engine in the car would that increase it by a lot or should I just flog the engine and all looms seperate?

You may get more cash for the engine if sold as working or recon.

Just make sure that when you go there you tell him that you are bringing in a fair bit of scrap steel, aluminium and copper.  Minus his processing costs he should give you about £200 for it all.

If you have removed all the coolant, glass, rubber and plastics etc.. and just left him with metal, the less work for him, more cash for you.

He then bales up all his metal and sells it direct to a recycling mill.

Ah will just flog the engine for what I can get for it with the box etc.

Yep fair points, will make sure it's just metal as best as posible and scrap the lot.

Cheers. :)

Who did you do your towing licence with?

Post by: Bellend on 20 September 2011, 23:50
No one. My dad and boss both don't need one to tow.

A vehicle with an unladen weight of 1250kg and a MAM of 2000kg, towing a trailer with a MAM of 1000kg could be driven by a category B licence holder. This is because the combined MAM of the vehicle and the trailer does not exceed 3500kg and the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the vehicle.

Taken off another site. I could tow it anyway.

I thought that if you passed your test after 1997 you weren't allowed to tow anything ever.

Just far more strict weights.
