My wife's Golf parked outside the school today and when she git back to the school, some ba****d has hit the front bumper and it's scratched and chipped. No dents on it but looks sh!t and wife upset.
VW just quoted me £622 to supply, fit and paint a new bumper which i thought was a piss take to be honest. Does this sound like the sort of thing a body shop could sort out?
-
Assume this is a newer model?
Sounds a little pricey but I guess a new bumper is a couple of hundred, then paint it, then time to remove the old one, swap parts over and refit so I guess £622 isn't too far off.
Why does it need a new bumper if it's only scratched/chipped? Surely it's just a basic filler/paint repair?
-
Yes it's a mark 6.
I didn't know whether bumpers could be filled, sanded and repainted (bit naive on that front!).
Any idea what sort of cost i should be looking at??
-
If its chipped and scratched then it can be repaired.
A good bodyshop would charge between £100 and £200.
I would argue that most bodyshops would do a better job than the VW dealer also.
Where abouts are you located?

There will probably be loads of small/dent/plastic repair specialist in your area, just google or yell.com it. ChipsAway do this kind of work too.
Difficult to tell without seeing and I'm no expert but I would imagine you should be able to get the price down to around £100.

Located in the Midlands. Why would you say a local body shop would be better than VW?
I took it to VW near Wolverhampton and they quoted £190 which i didn't think was too bad.
Hopefully when it's done, you won't be able to tell it's been done. Annjoying though paying out £200 for nothing!

Just dealer prices and a repair like how you described doesn't need any genuine parts or special VAG tools or "know how" to fix. They may even just have a local sub-contractor that does these small repair jobs and bosh a little on for the service.
Post a picture of the damage. Is the actual bumper cracked or is just a bad scuff?
