Title: ESP Light.
Post by: GTGirl on 20 September 2011, 13:04
Hey guys,

I hope i am posting this in the right area!

I've very recently purchased a 1.9 GTTDI 130 and she is a beauty, she has come to me with some minor issues which i am sorting out. But the one thing that's causing me some bother is the ESP light! It is on constantly (yes i have tried pressing the button ;) ) I have plugged in my  maxi scan MS509 and i'm not getting any faults coming up. The guy i got her off had her plugged into a snap on diagnostics and again nothing comes up!

Any ideas what could be causing this? I am hoping it might be a loose sensor, but thought i'd pick ya brains and see what else could be the problem.

Thanks

VAGCOM it first. The other readers might not pick up specific codes.

There is a list of people with VAGCOM in the remapping subsection > diagnostics

Thanks for the replies

She is in for a service tomorrow and i am paying them extra for a diagnostics check, the thing is i am wary of them saying its something bad just to get extra cash out of me, when maybe its just something simple.

Maybe a silly question! But what is this VAGCOM? How much is it to buy? Sounds like something that would be worth investing in!

Thanks again

99% of the time when the ESP light is on the fault code will be reported from the ABS module, which the MS509 can't access. The snap-on tools can do it if used properly but vagcom is your best bet. Generally its just down to a bit of cr@p stuck in the abs pickup ring or a faulty sensor.

Well just had the call from VW and her service is complete, the cause of the ESP light is a faulty steering angle sensor!  All in all not too bad!
