Title: Parking Sensors
Post by: Exonian on 18 September 2011, 12:28
My car doesn't have parking sensors and as I'm crap at parking I really ought to invest in a set.
On the VW Acessories internet thingy there are several possibilities listed.

One set is £425 1K0 054 630 B

One set is just under £200 but not painted and there's another set listed a pre painted and only costs £210 fitted 2GB 000 052 2LA7T (steel grey version, slightly different suffix for other colours).

I know this has been discussed before but I can't find the threads, so does anyone know the differences between the kits?

I would go after market if it was me (I have been thinking of it and have been looking at the trade mags)
There are systems available much better than VW accessory ones that look exactly like the OEM ones from VW factory. With flush fit small sensors.

Heres the laserline ones (seen better ones in the trade mag but the make escapes me and someone binned the mag  )

You mean like this  Laserline, the best outside OEM. Contact Laserline and they'll put you in touch with a local fitter. I would guess up to £300 fitted?

I fitted these myself, bought a brand new set off ebay for only £25  They come in at around £125 normally.
Quite a skilled job (I worked in F1 & Aircraft) would recommend you get a fitter. I'm really pleased with result & reckon they look near as damn it original, but they do not display on RNS510 screen, just audible bleeper.

Thanks Geoff.

I would do the same Steve but being a tight wad who changes car too frequently I always buy second hand so don't get quite the same choice. Whenever I find a car with my perfect spec the thing is either too expensive or my part ex price is too low which amounts to the same thing.

I was speaking to a dealer the other day who had a 12 month old GTI with full spec except leather up for £20k (mileage was a bit high admittedly at 17k) so that car took a hit of about £12k in one year looking at what the dealer would have paid at trade.

So it's a retro fit for me ...

Most car audio dealers will fit these and make a good job. I don't know were your located so could not really recomend anyone. But if you look on www.talkaudio.co.uk/vbb im sure you could find a good recomended dealer near you.

I simply love my front and rear little darlings and the way they show up distances on the RNS 510.
The front ones beep from the front speakers and the rear ones utilise the rear speakers. Worth every penny or in this case pound.

Thanks Geoff (again), I'll have a nose around that site.
The clue to my location is the username by the way!

Just get a rear view camera, far better than parking sensors

But you can't install a camera in the front.
I love the front and rear speakers beeping with different tones.
Now a rear camera + rear sensors would be delightful overkill.
Andy, you should go the whole hog and thus have the most preciously protected rear.

Yes I fully endorse this comment, the camera is a stunning piece of kit and gives a great wide angled view when reversing.

Is this standard? I can't say I've noticed this on my RNS.

i bought the OPS rear parking kit on ebay from the carsystem.pl guy. he makes a kit using vag oem parts and makes the wiring harness himself.
its a pain to install and the coding is near impossible if u dont have an idea as his instructions from kufatec dont really match up to his wiring harness.
i had to get it installed from my garage and he needed a few cracks at it before getting advice from a vw electronics advisor to vw australia.
but in the end, it works perfectly now and its the best mod i have done. for about aud$400 installed, its worth it for me as the rear vision is terrible at the best of times and on a rainy night, its a gamble to reverse anywhere.
the ops helps immeasurably

Yeah, yeah I know!! I should have bought your second hand one you sold not so long ago but I was negotiating on a car that had one fitted at the time!
Not sure I could be arsed to fit the thing though but Quality Dave did offer to fit one a year or two ago.
Various plans are afoot at the moment ... only time and money limits me!!

Welcome walbjj, get some pics up of your car and more info on it. Always good to see different GTIs from around the world.
I've often looked at the carsystem guy's stuff, it's quite funny as he charges quite different amounts for his stuff depending on what language he's selling it in!! As an example it is far cheaper to buy one off his ebay USA auctions than it is from his ebay UK sales.
I guess he'd be fairly flexible with his offer acceptances?!!

Anyway, car not going to be in much use for a while so I've got plenty of time to faff about thinking about where I'm going next.
Wifey is busy stitching together next years holiday too so she can make sure I don't blow everything I've got on cars!!

When I passed my test there was no parking assists. Only females are bad for parking (sorry girls), esp reverse. Whats your excuse pal....?
I have sensors, could have done without them, but now almost rely on them.......oh no...I'm a girl.....!
