Hey. Can someone please tell me how to fix a ticking over problem? When I start the car first time and its sitting idle, it fluctuates between 15-20000 rpm.
Is this actually a problem? I mean, I understand that the car needs to warm up a bit, bit it just doesn't sound healthy.
It will do this for a while until warmed up. Any ideas how to sort this out?
Cheers.

Try cleaning the ISV with brake cleaner. If it stabilises you can drop the idle with the idle screw.

If my Golf idled between 15-20,000 rpm, I'd dare say it was "a problem"

My 16v ticks over from cold around 1200 to 1400, I think that may be more like the norm??? :embarassed:
Drops to 900 to 950 once warm.....

Cool, thanks.

I had the same problem on mu 8v ended up bein throttle body gasket and vacum hoses to the brake servo had a duff non return valve, which was lettin in air after the airflow meter. Which made I rev itself embaressin in traffic lol

Go and have a root around in the maintenance section. Re: setup.

ISV?

[Han] I think your asking what an ISV is? ISV= idle stabilizer valve.
Poor idle could be a number of things. I went to look at an 8V with a similar idle problem last week.
It could be the ISV, blue temp sensor if its a digifant, metering head, throttle valve, air leak on inlet manifold pipes, cold start valve if its an early Kjet , sticking valve, ECU etc etc.

nope, not what i was asking, i was putting this forward as something to consider.
I know what ISV stands for.
i'm also pretty good with google and the site search feature...

OK i was not sure as it could have been either way when it had been sugested by someone else earlier in the thread and you had put
ISV?
