Title: what to clean alloys with
Post by: sellers on 21 April 2005, 23:17: my alloy wheels have been a bit neglected and are full of brake dust, which is stuck on well, normal wheel cleaner doesnt get it all off

is there anythin else to use? maybe disc brake cleaner? or bug and tar remover?

any suggestions, cheers

usinf G6 at the mo, just different abrasiveness mate!!
definitely the pro's choice, look for the brand!! its worth it :wink: :lipsrsealed:

Post by: moonsta on 22 April 2005, 10:36: have heard that "cillit bang" is good and as i have a set of f*rd alloys i'm gonna sell i'll try a bit and let you know,but if you beat me to it then try on a small bit you can see as i think it's quite aggressive. yes to the feraclea as if you have solid paint that's dead use the G4 as it's not got amonia in it.............post a picci of your clean wheels as an example to us all!!

I use acid patio or brick cleaner regularly on my BBS RAs and it is every bit as good and a helluva lot cheaper than Wonderwheels.

Though at the mo, Im running some shiney-ish TSW Volcanoes on the Polo, which come up 100% with just hot soapy water :wink:

Post by: Splinter on 22 April 2005, 22:57: Jeyes cleaner is cheapest perhaps. An old fashioned recipe of Carbolic Acid from DIY shops, wholesalers, etc seems to shift dirt and grease off anything. Wouldn't use it often, but great for getting off stuck on muck from your alloys. Also good for getting oil splashes off the drive, etc.

Wonder Wheels is top stuff though, but it also slowly degrades your alloys if uses too often.

Also find tar remover seems to help in lots of situations.

2)Autoglym (can we get a club discount !!) Intensive tar remover

3) Followed by Autoglym polish

we use it on cars at work works wonders good for exhaust aswell if you want it to shine
