Title: This isnt a project thread- Audi A4 derv
Post by: Sam on 16 September 2011, 19:07
Promised myself that I wouldnt Mod my audi estate and just use it as a hack so this isnt a project. That failed before I even got the bugger home, and its all this images fault.

So, this is the purchase all cleaned up with pressed plates and plate surrounds fitted.

And spend this evening de-badging the rear for a much cleaner look, I think it looks rather spiffing

Cheers buddy.

Nice mate, so when you lowering the derv?

Wheels and suspension will be done at the same time, so just need to invest my student loan wisely as per usual  :lipsrsealed:

Looks good.

How much?

Now that would be telling, but it was a very good price

Here is a contunuation of me not modding my car. Today has been eventfull, I paid a man £150 who owned a laptop and cable to read my vagcom and do a few other bits whilst he was at it.

I also had a tinker with my grill seen as I have the day off, so....

In the last pic it looks very dark as the sun is behind it but in real life I recon it looks coc on

Also my temp sender is broken so every now and then my coolant temp shoots up to 120deg and everything starts beeping then it all goes quiet and back to normal. Should be ok for a short while, just need to watch my oil temp.

Much better than when you had to load the Golf up the first time!

Can't be many students going to Uni in cars like this!

Nope, had my first lecture this morning and three people have said how nice she is. Also yesterday I spotted my mate and his Mrs walking along so I flicked them the V's before pulling over to say hi. She just said 'I wondered who the f**k was swearing at us in that posh car

Oh and for the record there arent many MK2 golf turbos at uni either (one less this year)

Well that goes without saying but can't see many people having the cash for either to be honest.

Ok so windcreen wipers have stopped working properly (just kinda shudder across the screen stopping now and then even on top speed). Any ideas anyone or is It simply new motor time?

Also she has thrown of a wheel weight so when you do 70 on the motorway she shudders like a b!tch and when you do 100 on an air strip the shudder comes back.

The water temp sensor is properly f**ked now. She pretty much goes straight to 120 as soon as you start driving and everything beeps and you cant see anything on the display screen for the rest of the journey. Booo

On a lighter note, I should have my student load/grant soon so.... lowering ahoy!  :lipsrsealed:

Right, a few updates. Wipers were sorted, they were seized up so I 'popped' them off (nightmare getting them out when solid) greased them up and they are fine. Anyhow, I bought some new wheels for her...

And this makes her look like a tractor and the tire is on show so my arches are gonna have to be rolled methinks.

Here is a little photopoop of her with a 40mm drop as intended.

So, just to sort a set of springs and getting the arches rolled.

Ok, gonna have to be pulled, and thats gonna cost money. This would be on top of springs too. Im in two minds about weather I should bother  :undecided:

looks good sam, go see martin and ian, they'll roll and pull the arches for you so they fit.

they have an arch roller, did my rears on my three door with it after a meet to sort em out. might crack the paint slightly but thats cos its stretchin the metal

Might pay somone to do it, as they use a heat gun and all the other bolocks to do it.

Well I think they have 1. Martin didn't crack his paint. Doesn't hurt to ask. As ud have to pull the fronts I think the paint would suffer

Ok, sent an email this morning to 'Archenemy' and it turns out.... they are pretty clueless. There website states how easy pulling/flairing audi A4 arches. But the email responding to my queery stated that they had 'little experience' with my car, and could only probs pull 5mm (what the f**k is the point in that!?

Anyhow, I am currently on the hunt for a good looking set of universal arches as a4 ones dont exist. Ideally I want them to attach via the little lip on the inside of the arch (dont know if this is possible) or attach them via a solvent that doesnt harm paintwork (perhaps the stuff badges are stuck on with?) Anyhow, here is a little photopoop.. its sh!te but gets my point accross.

EDIT:

Would early allroad arches fit? They certainly look better

Good shout on the allroad arches.

You may have to chop out/flare the inside of the arch after attaching the trims so that they don't tear up the tyres once you get it lowered, the plastic is really only there to make it look tidy.

You can rent a rolling/pulling tool from eBay for about £45 a weekend, give it a go with a heat gun and go really slowly and you'll be fine.

Right, so the overhang appears to be around 25mm max. I have spoken to a few people who have said lowering a car usually drags the wheel in a little. Does anyone know how much a 50mm drop will drag in the wheel? If its only 10mm that would mean running a stretched tyre in combo should make me legal as it will only require 20mm reduction in width.

After giving my girl no TLC since the last update a lot has happened. Both front wishbone bushing and push rod bushings have gone almost completely, cv joint is a knocking like hell, rear trailing bushings were completely shot (you could push the back end side to side, it was awefull) and a rear damper was 'weaping', which actually fell apart into 4 separate pieces once the spring was removed.

Bushings needed burning out and then pulling with the aid of a windy gun and a puller

A very bouncy ride for the past few months is explained above.

Ordered all front controll arms but aren't here after ordering 2 weeks ago

Two new front tyres to go on soon also.

One of the very few jobs where in the future I would simply send it to a garage to sort, absolutely awful job. Oxycet bolts off, dropping sub frames and removing suspension struts for hours and hours.  but all done now

Sent it to a local bloke to swap out a wheel bearing that was making a bonkers noise... went to pick up the car and the quotes 'worst I have ever seen', 'suprised your wheel didn't fall off' and 'completely f**ked' where made in the 2 minute conversation with the mechanic.  :lipsrsealed:

Really really want to do some cosmetic stuff to this car to make this thread worth even half reading, but unfortunately stuff keeps f**king up. Rear wheel bearing gone pop.
