Trying to mate my 02A to my ABF to fit into my mk2... Thing is i cant seem to get my gearbox to fit.. it just doesnt seem to line up at all.. ive tried lining the 2 lugs up on the block but still nothing its starting to annoy me now..
can anyone help ?
has anyone got decent pics of a ABF block and gearbox mounted together ?
Thanks

Do you mean the bolt holes don't line up? The 02a is designed to fit lots of engines so you don't don't need all the holes lined up i think i only have 3 on mine
-
just cant get it to line up so it looks half decent im just confused
-
Daft question perhaps. but it is the gearbox for the engine isn't it?
It's not a 6 cylinder 02A?
-
How would I tell the difference mate ?

How would I tell the difference mate ?
What's the gearbox code on it?
-
Can only see o2a on the outside where will the whole code be located ?
-
There's a flat section near the shift tower. Clean it off and you should see the code.
-
Thanks will do it in the morning and post up

2 part numbers ive found,
o2A 945 413 B - on the shift tower - And google says this is the reverse light switch
o2A 301 107 C - on the inside of the housing - Quick google tells me its a 5speed trans housing
any ideas ?

On the flat section where the shift tower bolts on, there should be a 3 digit code. DPA or similar.
I think DPA is the Mk3 16v gearbox.
You may have ro use some emery paper or a scraper to get the area clean and readable.
I *think* the Golf VR6 'box is CCM...and no use at all.

you were right turns out to be a o2a vr6 box  there is no way this will fit is there ?? its a o2a CCM box

Right on the hunt for a new gearbox
-
any idea of codes that will fit ive found a DFQ code one ?
-
Any 4 cylinder 02a will fit, but depends on the ratios you need.
-
Think DFQ is an 020 box is it not??
-
Yep 020
DFQ 8/95 - 7/96 Golf, 8/95 - 7/96 Jetta, From '93 115hp, Large input shaft 3.45 1.94 1.29 0.97 0.8 3.67
Search in this knowledge base (http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=115595) for all the 02a codes. You may find a box with a 3.9:1 ratio would be better for a mk2.
Even an 02J from a mk4 can fit and may even have some good ratios to choose from. Don't go putting any old box that fits on. It may spoil your driving feel.

What box would you recommend mate ?? i just want something cheap at the moment so i can get the car running and MOT'd and can change after if need be.. can you also run seat cable clutch on a mk4 box ?

Nope...not unless you swap the casing for a 4 cylinder casing...and even then the FD ratio is awful for a 16v.
Best just flog it and look for a DPA or other 4 cylinder 'box.

Ah. Also depends on what driveshafts you have, as they are different sizes. Although some are interchangeable. Do it once and get the box you need. CDA/DPA MK3 16v boxes can be had for £30-£60 if you search. Mk4 boxes can be used with the cable IIRC.

well i have my original mk2 shafts and i have 2 100mm shafts here i assume from mk3
