Sorry to bore you all with this one but i'm jus so chuffed my mk1 will be back on the road tomorrow, least i'm praying anyway. had so many bad experiences with garages and now its come to the point where some major work is gonna get it back in action. Haven't slept properly for 2 nights now because of it. Sad i know. But after 2 months of drivin it like a micra and the last month seein no action at all i'm gaggin to get back in it.
here's hopin for it's resurrection tomorrow. I'll get some pics up in the forum soon too as its starting to look respectable.
Also, does the single grill conversion allow you to put the red trim on it? if so where can i get one, the ones ive seen for sale don;t make it obvious that you can do this.
Cheers

Righty,
It's in the garage as i type. Just hope the VW specialists up in Ellesmere Port do a good job. Sure they will. Will keep you updated on the situation as i've got nothing better to do except sit around on here waitin for the call, that and go and get my sh*t hair trimmed.

Yeh went for the indie kid hair style and it kinda got a bit out of control
Delay on the car front, reckons itll be ready tomorrow now. Noooooo!!!! Such a nice evenin for a drive as well! gutted. Plannin on gettin wasted tonight as well, don;t fancy that if i have to go pick it up. Let's just hope the delay means theyve thrown in a few extra bits, say a 2 litre engine would be nice for my inconvenience

What Lewis is trying to convey is that he found, as i did university placements are MEANT for growing your hair

Woohoo! Back on the road. So nice to drive around on non snapped front springs  And wheels that go in the right direction.
Right what's next!?
Anyone know how to remove the front grill? I know how to do it but im just wondering how to get the black top things that hold it on off without snapping them. Do you just prise them off or what? Any help wud be good cos my red trim needs replacing.
Cheers

just push out the middle of the clip out, carefully so that you don't loose the round middle part.
What grill have you got on there now?, cos if you've already got a red grill an the paint is coming off take all the paint off with some stripper  an spray on red after some careful maskin and you've saved yourself some dosh

Yeh i managed to work out the middle bit pushes through, but only after snapping one, doh. Ah well Sorted now.
Yeh its a red one and all the bendable metal clips are in tact, unlike the one i just got from golfmk1.co.uk, bit annoyed about that. Fits ok luckily. Will definately restore the one ive got though.
Gave it a good polish too so it's startin to look like something worth while. Second coat tmorro if the rain stays off and il get some pics up
Cheers for the advice.
Lewis.

Well Douglas is back on the road and after a good polish is starting to look good. Any comments? Next jobs are a couple bits of welding(inside rear arch, sills) single grill, front spoiler(under bumper) and other little bits and pieces. Feelin much better bout it now, specially as its been a well nice day and ive been shining my way round chester
