The problem with the Monzas is they are diamond cut finish so will always be prone to white worm. The only way to stop this is to powder coat them but then that removes the shiney nice finish you get with the Monzas that makes them look so nice.

Here is a picture of some Monzas that have had the treatment

If you speak to at wheel refurbishment place they should know what your talking about. Good wheel refurb companys that had dealt with Monzas in the past are:

Right well as i said above i'd get some pics up of the result....

Wheels were meant to be fitted today (monday) but Wheel Wizard (Byfleet nr Woking, Surrey) rang me up Saturday said they were done and could be fitted already so we went down there the nice chaps swapped over the scuffed 17's for the beautifully refurbished 18's...
This is the before shot, second hand from eBay...

Not the worse condition alloys i've ever seen but all were scratched, scraped and had a few chunks of metal missing.

This is the result which looks absolutely stunning...(excuse the tired center caps some new ones are on their way)

This next shot is poor but these are the old 17"

And then the newly refurbished 18" wheels...

So wheels were £525 and refurb £425 = £950, saving £1000 over a new set JUST for the alloys no tyres from VW so a nice cheaper upgrade that looks factory fresh...

The tyres they came on had a fair few miles left on 2 and a couple of thousand on the other 2 which is a bonus so no need for a new set just yet
Mate is very pleased and we'd both recommend Wicked Wheels in Byfleet...

Matt

Look much better now matey, good work :afro:

Bare in mind them Event WL905 tyres aren't performance tyres and as such wont give massive levels of grip (some pretty bad reviews of it in the wet aswell). I cant express enough how much its worth investing in a set of decent quality premium tyres, especially for a GTI which gets driven in anger every now and again.
