Hi
My mums away and today her cat came in and laid on the floor next to me licking a wound, its about an inch long and you can see the innards, so definitely needs stitches, only last time a friend took his cat to a vet for a similar but smaller wound it cost him 300 or so pounds
What would you do?
Is it worth it? I could spend that on my car or fuel for the next 3-4 months
-
I'd get it down the vet and get it fixed up. Will prob need some stitches, antibiotic injection, pain killer injection, and a lampshade. For injections alone you are looking at around £50-60, for stitches I'm not sure.
I assume it isn't insured if you are worried about the cost?
-
Yeah, not insured
Dont have insurance for myself let alone have it for a cat
-
Take it to the vets. The wound could get infected or something which could lead to an even bigger bill
-
Taking to vets, not looking forward to the bill
-
What would your Mum say?
-
Is it her cat? Get her to give you the wonga when she gets back.

This!
Get them to send the bill to your mum. What you going to do, leave the cat there to get worse?
-
Mums cat, the missus is at the vets now with the cat
Mum would go berserk if I left it like that
I'm not totally heartless, hopefully its not as bad as it looks
Probably got caught on a wire or something, there is new razor wires put up by neighbours on their property overlooking the road, so guessing it was from there

IIRC this is actually illegal.
-
IF your on benefits you can take it to the PDSA, for free.
On a DIY note. One of my springer spaniels sliced it paw open once on a tin can in the woods. Blood everywhere. Had to carry the thing home.
If you look at your right hand and imagine a 1.5 cm deep cut from the base of the thumb to the base of the little finger, you'll get the idea.
Here's what I did. Cleaned out the cut, then I superglued the edges back, leaving a small gap at one end for fluid to escape. Then bandaged.
Dog was none the wiser and it healed up very well over a few weeks. Boy Scouts training FTW!
But Don't try this at home kids.
-
Hope the cat heals up OK haf1zur.
Elvi, is that how they fix up the Welsh rugby team?
-
I dont like cats :angry:creepy fookers
But you did right taking it to the vets

hmm, will have to read up on that, guessing the local authority will advise
thanks

If it is illegal, can you not send them the bill?
-
You'd have a hard time proving it obviously.
I just seem to remember reading somewhere about where a neighbour has cemented glass shards on to the top of a brick wall as he didn't like cats, so if they jumped up they would slice and dice their paws once they gripped to pull themselves up.
-
Iirc glass is illegal yes. but the razor wire is legal.
Police station near me has razor wire around the back fence (pointles considering it doesebt have a gate so yoy can just walk in there if you want  )
Though could be wrong so ide still check up on it.
hope the cats ok
-
I think if the razor wire is below the top of the party wall and only on the side of the owners property then its OK.
A Neighbourhood Watch Liason PC told me that but then went on to suggest carpet grip on top of the wall, "but dont say I told you so"
-
The neighbour next to the one with the razor wire has glass shards on top of the walls, been there for around 20 years or so
It would be hard proving it i guess, but if i spot blood on the wires or glass i will have to investigate my options
Thanks for the help guys
Cat is waiting to be stitched up, has had a jab to numb the pain
Not sure what the bill will be though, even though its my mums, i am the one who pays the bills so will be my pocket stung

Doesn't look good
She's been kept overnight
Apparently:
Dehydrated
Cut is 3-4 days old
Mulnourished
Imminent Kidney Failure
Its been eating every day so wondering why its mulnourished, or could that be due to the cut being infected
Will find out tomorrow

Doesn't sound good in terms of the cat and the bill.

Really sorry to hear that mate. I lost my cat after a long and good 19 years, she had kidney failure. Usually though, with kidney failure, it causes blood infections and mouth ulcers, making it hard if not impossible for the poor cats to eat due to the pain, which is what happened to mine. Was a hard thing to see and people without pets don't know how attached you can be to your pets.
It's been a bit of a sh!t year, a friend getting run over and killed too, both grandparents dying, grandad only being a few weeks ago now.

Its not illegal, but you do need planning permission to put it up
-
shes back home
has to go back tomorrow for a final check up though

that new fence is facing outwards, i really dont think they got permission either
will be contacting the authority to see what can be done
-
and the bill? how much did it cost?
-

still, thats like 4 full tanks
