Title: Clutch etc.

Hi Guys,

Got the dreaded stiff clutch.

Going to get myself a new clutch cable to start with.

Im assuming if i have a clutch cable then i don't have the hydraulic version with master and slave cylinder.?

And secondly how easy are the clutch cables to fit, i understand mine is an auto adjuster one.

8v cable, 16v hydr

and vw fitted auto adjusters as standard (after market sell manual adjusters to save £££)

So i need to get myself an auto adjustable one then.

How easy are they to fit?

fairly simple, you may need to jack the clutch arm up and remove a few parts to fit but a half hour job (just dont release the cable clip until it is properly fitted!)

Little tip.If your new cable does'nt already come with it get yourself a new retainer as well.That's the bit that the engine end of the cable pulls on,fits in your clutch operating arm.

Its pretty obvious when you get to it.

1. Remove scuttle panel

2. Using a jack, lift the clutch arm up so the cable hangs below the retaining clip

3. Remove retaining clip and rubber bung

4. Unclip cable at the top of the clutch pedal

5. Pull cable up through the grommet behind the scuttle panel (attach a bit of string to the pedal end of the old cable - this will help when guiding the new through the hole and back down.

6. repeat the above in reverse order

7. Stand back and feel much smugness!  :smug:
