Who's heard of that then??? I haven't and I now have 4 days to move my car on private land otherwise the council take the car and charge me £150
What can I do to argue to keep the car in the residential parking that is off the road and next to my house?
What if I was on holiday and didn't get the notice? bye bye car
-
does the council own the land its parked on
Where it appears to a local authority that the land on which a motor vehicle is abandoned as aforesaid is occupied by any person, the authority shall give him notice . . . F6 that they propose to remove the vehicle in pursuance of subsection (1) above but shall not be entitled to remove it if he objects to the proposal . . . within the prescribed period
-
yes they do. But who gives them the right to say it's abandoned? It's sorn and in my name. I didn't know of this act. I left a message saying I'm having it mot tomorrow and then taxing it. And that They should of contacted me first to see what is happening with this car. It will be on the road within two days but they can still take it?
-
It's a Golf3, abandoned on Council land. People pay for skips and they only get them for so long.
If it was on your land they couldn't do anything, but as it's Council-owned land you have to abide by their rules. Shift it, or lose it.
Or do you think they're making it up?
-

question and answer is there - sorn would imply not in use / abandoned and its on their land and thus needs to obide by the rules of the road (same as any carpark etc)

You sig pic show garages... park it in one of those
-
Ok so haven't got a leg to stand on lol
ok SORN = abandond
You think I will be able to get a garage in four days? hahahaha more like 4 weeks.
bye bye vr6
-
No one you know have a drive you can put it on?
-
land costs money nowadays, and if youre using land owned by someone else, they will want money out of you regardless, no where is free nowadays, everybodys got their hands in your pockets
-
Your story doesn't make sense.
You are getting it taxed and MOT'd tomorrow, so what's the problem? Get it insured and you are away.
-
Can't get hold of them!
I'm just ranting!!! I didn't know of this act and don't think many people do. If I did it would be in a garage.
I may as well throw £2000 in the air.
-
Just get some more plates made up off the other GTI, whack them up and park one of them a few roads apart.

god life is hard sometimes :lipsrsealed:

Is that Haverhill council In Suffolk? Bunch of w*nkers if you ask me
(I do hope it's someone's job to google and get feedback about how people think the council works?)
-
Just get it on a Driveway or in a garden an out the way.
Don't think they won't do it, I lost my mk4 the same way, left it in my allocated private parking sorn'd when I moved up north (still own the flat)
And a few week later got a call from my neighbour saying my car was gone!
Council/DVl funking A took it and 'crushed' it (f**king stripped it more like)
A £1700 car with £3k of recent mods
-
Bring it to mine mate, Ive got a drive and a garage! Leave me the keys!!
-
pissed me off that they only gave me four days to move it, it's as if they think I knew about the act and that I know I'm in the wrong. Think they should inform you first or give you more time.
I can't drive it, it needs to be towed and I work long days. Most the time I work away from home.
See what they say tomorrow.
it's west suffolk council
-
how long does it take to evict squatters? sleep in it until its taked and MOT'd
If you or a friend is catching some zzz in the mk3 they cant take it to the crusher. human rights?
-
You've got four days to do something about it, it's going to be MOT'd and taxed in two days, what's to worry about?
Keep hounding them by phone and email, you have two whole days to move it somewhere else and to contact them and explain it's taxed and MOT'd. Heck take a pic of the MOT cert and email it to them.
I got one of those nasty notices stuck to my Golf2 last December, so had to picked up and scrapped within the time they said to sort it out (7 days iirc) and in FEBRUARY I get another letter saying they're going to fine me for still having the car on their land when it's already been scrapped 3 months earlier
I couldn't get hold of them by phone, so emailed as many email addresses I could find on the local council's website asking for it to be forwarded to the correct department because I couldn't find any useful info, I stated what had happened in December and that the car hadn't been there for almost 3 months and asked why they wanted to fine me. Needless to say I had a very apologetic email from them saying they won't be taking the matter any further, knobers.
