Hi guys, i have been looking to get a set of coilovers. about in the region of £200. can any one suggest any and whats you opinions on these?

They all look cheap and nasty.... You get what you pay for with Coilovers....
Do a search as this has been covered 100's of times...

OEM G60 Shocks & Eibach springs for front and Boge Turbo shocks for rear... All new OEM top mounts and Bumpstops etc...
Will last for years and not knock your teeth out... Might cost a bit more but worth it - IMO

"Personally" I wouldn't bother with coilies if it's you daily, do it bit at a time... It's how I did it...
Springs first then save up for the shocks and all the other parts unless you have to do it all at once....
Mines not a show car (as such) it's my daily and I like my own teeth and can't afford to have a bad back!!!

i got a set of fk ak street and for £209 delivered they're a bargain, they have a fairly hard ride but it's pretty smooth and has improved the handling no end :D

Weitec Hicon GTN's.
They have coilover fronts and shock & spring (adjustable ride height) on the rear.
Cant recommend them enough, they've been brilliant on my mk2VR6; comfy cruising, but firm enough for A-road twisty action. They're a bit firm for pot-holey, lumpy B roads though...
Just remember that any coilover kit will require the threads to be greased otherwise they'll corrode up. Luckily the Weitecs have plastic adjuster rings so they dont seize solid unlike some cheaper brands - just go steady tightening the grub screw which secures the plastic ring in place.
Price wise - £380 ish.

Do this.
Makes far more sense than nailing on some cheap failovers.
You have budgeted for proper alignment post fitment as well, haven't you?
Otherwise you'll need to budget for new tyres as well.

I was VERY surprised when I fitted a set of these to a mates B5 passat as they are actually pretty good in terms of ride quality. However, thats a very heavy bus with a lot more rubber in the suspension than a mk2 so wouldnt like to guess what they are like on a golf. On the plus side, they use progressive wound springs rather than the normal single rate jobs normally fitted to coilovers so there is some potential for ride quality.

i fitted them a couple of weeks ago and have had the tracking done, and they ride really will, spent twice the amount on my previous car on a shock and spring set and they weren't as good as the coilovers i'm running now, i also got a jom stut brace for about £40 delivered, handles beautifully mate
i have an 8v though, but i can't see them being any different for a 16v :laugh:

Depends what your idea of a mk2 'looking good' is. I had a 60mm shock + spring kit, and lowering top mounts, but it still wasn't low enough for me.. I've since bought hottuning coilies- very bumpy, and not good handling unless you're on perfectly smooth roads, when you need no shock absorbence,otherwise the car skips about. The stiff springs + low centre of gravity do do it well when on decent tarmac. That's about 400 quid spent now, buying both sets. Old ones 'felt' better, but new ones make car look better imo. I'm now looking to get both decent handling + low enough height, aka a decent set of £450 ish coilies, and going to sort arches right out so the wheels have room to travel, and absorb bumps, even when really low. Thatll be nearly a grand spent to get where I want to be. Not good. I think you should really think about what you want, as its bad to do things twice/three times!! As said, if arch clearance + smooth ride is what you want, get some shocks + springs (koni preferably) but if you want it to look 'how a fat mk2 should' then its got to be coilovers. On the dished ronal ls's I've got it looks pretty sweet, if I do say so myself!!!
