My car has the oval connections on the headlights does anyone know if thats what the hella celis headlights come with? and if they are is it just as simple as pluging them in and your done. Also does anyone know if they pass MOT's fine.
-
They pass MOT's as VW offered them at the dealers. Although obviously you would need to check the adjustment on the beam when you fit.
They do have the Oval Connectors, or at least mine did.
It is as simple as plug and play.
Be careful not to break the clips on the grille when you take it out to change the lights...

mike, the celis are those horrid angel headlamps and not twin hellas i think you mean ?
if they are genuine hella they will pass MOT fine tho

I have Hella Celis on mine and they have the square blocks on,i.e. the pin layout is like a number 4 on a dice.If you pm me your email address i can send you a pdf file on them,it explains how you set them up for rhd or lhd. They are only available in chrome so i stripped mine and painted them satin black.I bought mine second hand so i am not sure what they come with connection wise. You can get adapters that take the oblong connector block to the square one.I use Osram Nightbreakers on mine to good effect.

Cheers for the replies guys
@ Mikester do you have any tips for removing the grill?
@ F17BAD there defo not to everyones taste but the misses likes them and after seeing them in the flesh I must admit I think they look pretty nice although in the future I may do what gasket did and paint them.
@ Gasketface cheers for the links mate I bought one of those sets off ebay just need to fit them now.
While on the subject of fitting in the instructions it says "for vehicles with H4 headlamps only. pull plug or relay from postion 10 on the central component board and insert bridge provided then re-insert plug or relay into position 10"
How do you know if you have H4 headlights?

Fitting is easy.
Open the bonnet, along the top of the grill are a few clips, push these gently with a screwdriver and the top will pop out. Then look carefully along the bottom of the headlight and there are a couple other clips. You can angle a screwdriver in and push these.
Now that's off you'll see four 8mm bolts on the headlight, one in each "corner".
Disconnect the headlamp wiring and remove the headlamp. Fit the new one back in.

If you have a GTi i do'nt think you need that bridge as you already have two lights in each unit.If you have a gl or something with multi filament bulbs you will need to fit it.
If you are thinking of repainting them then be aware that the chrome has to be flatted or removed before painting. The hardest part of that is that the backing plate (the chrome part) is all one piece so you have to mask of the main beam part very carefully when you prep and spray. They are silver plated so if you rub it too hard it will come off.
The angel eyes side of things have no bulbs as such, they are lit via a circuit board with a tiny high brightness led sort of thing. These led things are not replaceable or accessible unless yous plit the units.

O dear. Sorry Brad.
I thought that was the fancy name for the Hella Twins.... My fault.
Either way, should be fine!
