Yo

Their is a couple of programs id like to keep using on my mac but they are PC only
these are Sony Acid Pro, and Sony Soundforge
Anybody know the best way i go about it ? iv seen a few ways not sure on the best ?

Parallels or doesnt the OS have boot camp built in?
-
You can run Windows on the new Macs.
-
i have seen the Parralells, do i need to get this then ?
cheers guys, new laptop is the brand new macbook Pro, direct from apple if this helps
-
Boot Camp comes with the Macbook, so just search for it on there. Should guide you through setting it up, of course, you need a Windows installation disc and serial.
-
Yup. As above.
What you need is a windows disc and key.
Start up "bootcamp" on your mac.
It will create a partition on the hard drive and help you instal Windows to that partion of the drive.
Then you can flick between OS and Windows to do what you like. With this you will get to us windows with the full power of the mac.
If you run a program on the mac that allows to run windows programs you will get a lot of lag and potentially compatibility issues.
Look here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1461 for how to do it etc.

Their is a program for linux called WINE. it lets you run windows programs whilst still using the linux OS. i don't know if you can get something similar for mac
When i had linux i also partianed my HDD into 2 OS, linux and windows.
You can get a program to do that. However if the program you want to run is intensive on the hardware it will lag or slow down. Im guessing the above programs Brad wants to run are editing/Djing stuff so they will be intensive.
Plus those programs may have compatability issues. Not worth the hassle when you could just stick Windows on a partition then you will have no issues.
No issues other than you have spent near on 2k on a Macbook Pro and seen the light with OS X only to then stick Windows on it! (Joking... I have the same Macbook Pro... lol )
Sorted:

Any time although i would suggest doing it early on as once you start filling up the hard drive and then relying on Boot Camp to partion the drive, you COULD loose data i suppose. Although it is very unlikely! But its always better to be safe than sorry.
You literally start up Boot Camp and it does it all for you. Although you will have to click NEXT and put the Windows DVD in....

-

i have a foam one for my Powerbook and that was a good case.. laptop is used in nightclubs

there is a free option called Virtual Box.
http://www.virtualbox.org/
It is quite technical and quite tricky to setup.
-
iv heard of this, ill take a look cheers mate

Change the software you use , pointless setting up windows on a mac unless you have to.

Surely their are better programs for the mac? seeing as alot of music people i know, use macs for their music editing and stuff
I use various programs but mainly Logic 9 does everything i need it to
-
yep hear you
but nothing out their like ACID
we have Ableton but im not a fan
i also use Cubase but thatas fine on the mac. i will only use Acid pro very ocasionally hence why having it on the bootcamp side is cool
Audacity does what Soundforge does so thats covered so it really is just Acid Pro thats the issue. iv used it for over 10 years so its like a drug and i need to bring myself off it slowly while i get used to a replacement program

If you just bought a brand new MacBook Pro, then you'll have Lion installed on it. If this is the case, there is a new version of Boot Camp coming soon which will allow you to run Windows and Mac OS X together at the same time (wheras previously you had to run one or the other).
-
Virtual Box is Good, I use it all the time (and even run OS X on my Windows 7 PC for sh!ts and giggles  )
depends if you mind booting into Windows when you need too, then OS X when you need too do something OS X'y.

cheers for the replies guys
use Acid pro only on the windows side of things so its not a huge problem having to re boot into windwows to use it when i need to

Yup. The new version will just be an update that you will have to download im sure.
You will have the same macbook as me, its pretty good to be fair.
I havnt bought the £20 Lion upgrade yet, seen mixed reviews but cant see any benifit.
-
is yours the 2011 one with i7 intel chip ?
i qualify for Lion free if its not pre installed :smug: will see when it arrives on thursday.. hopefully it will serve me as well as my trusty old Powerbook (now resigned to general internet use and illegal events)

http://osxdaily.com/2011/09/15/how-to-install-run-windows-8-in-virtualbox/

Using Win8 Developers Preview (this is PRE_BETA) and it's excellent. No real bugs I've come across it's really cool, very different. Got it running in a Virtual Box too, 'cos I has not spare puters

You can easily get a better audio editor than Soundforge, Audacity isn't bad for free, but if you're serious about making music, it's worth getting something professional.
You can now get Adobe Audition for Mac. It's a good audio editor and multitrack recorder. http://www.adobe.com/products/audition.html (http://www.adobe.com/products/audition.html)
Download the trial and see how you like it. (As with many Adobe trials, there are ways to keep them going )
