Hi i am new to the forum and was told to talk to you guys, i have just brought a 2000 plate golf 1.8t gti. It has come with some dyno print outs showing it is putting out 166bhp. I dont no if its ever had a remap is there any way of telling ? i think it has an r32 exhaust but not sure on other mods, will my bhp improve if i did a custom remap with you ? or do i need to do other mods before getting a remap. I just want to be on the 200bhp mark
Thanks Guys

If its putting out 166bhp then it won't be remapped, its more likely that it is making a little more than stock power & has been put on an optimistic dyno.
What engine code is it? Depending upon that you should see 200bhp with a remap as long as your car is running well to begin with, i.e. no boost leaks etc. It's also advisable to upgrade to a forge 007p d/v with yellow spring when you get the map done.
Your best bet is to speak to the tuners on this forum & see what they recommend, personally I'd recommend Carbon Chiptuning, they mapped my car, they are great guys & the car is now an animal!

may sound stupid but where do i find the engine code ? also i have a dump valve but unsure on brand, any idea on cost ?

Engine code will be on a sticker under the carpet in the boot or inside the service book. It is likely to either be agu or aum. It would be worth looking at your d/v to see what brand it is and which spring is in it.
-
thanks mate just about to go check, whats the differences in the two engines ?
-
Main difference is the turbo. AGU has a KO3 AUM has a KO3S which remaps better. There are a number of differences but thats the main one.
Take a read of this, it will help - http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=40194.0

thanks just about to take a look

thanks just about to take a look
Mine is AUM and other than an uprated d/v with a remap it produced 204bhp & 240lb/ft
-
Where abouts are you? I got mine done at r tech and can't reccommend them more ! A remap is worth every penny
-
My MK5 has also had the R-Tech treatment :D

sapllmate, where are you from, I'm sure a FORUM TRADER will be able to help out on a try it before you buy it basis

A custom map setup would not give any more peak power as such, it allows the tuner to extract lost power hidden in inherent flat spots, and to compensate for a weak actuator spring and flater cam profiles from cam wear ect...
The main thing to make good power is to have a healthy running engine, good fuel, good spark plugs and an air tight boost/breather system. To complement any 1.8t remap it's recommended that an uprated DV is fitted (forge 007p) and a good air filter like the Pipercross in box panel filter (£34).
Peak power depends on you engine and turbo, as you have a year 2000 golf then there is a very good chance you will be running a ko3 turbo on an AGU or ARZ engine code. The Ko3 turbo will only run around 199bhp maxed out. A stage1 remap will be good for 190bhp 220lbft and a stage 2 199bhp 240lbft (but with a much stronger midrange power band)
you will only get good number if your actuator had not worn too much.
For power over 200bhp and upto 240bhp 260lbft then you will need the turbo from the later 2001 AUM golf which fits direct to your engine.
Where are you based?

Prices vary with who you with. Expect to pay anywhere between £200 and £500........
I'm across the border and can travel........
EDIT - got confused with other thread.....
-
so would it be the case that if i get to the remap and i need parts like boost pipes to get the remap done, i could buy them from the remap people on the day ?

All you need for Stage 1 is a nice healthy engine :afro:
Things to get sorted are your coilpacks; recall on most VW engines co check with your local dealer. Also the DV or diverter valve can split but again the dealer part is revised and can easily cope with a Stage 1 map :afro:
-
Rhyso how much would you charge to come and do it ?
-
DV valve is a must ;-0
Watch those coil packs too
-
i have a dv fitted just not sure on brand

ED30's go extremely well once mapped; Jeynesy on here has one and I've driven a couple myself

Where the ed30 come from? :-)
Thought it was a 1.8t AGU or ARZ which will have the strong coil packs.
