Chuff sorry, wll lock this but just thought id let others know the decided outcome

Going to order a brand new Mac Book Pro for my music related stuff and retire my old Powerbook to non music related stuff lke browsing ths web, photoshop and similar..

PC's are not for me. ordered the cradle thing so i can get the fles i need off the old HD

Heads not aligned, probably been dropped. If the data is important a data recovery company can do it for between £350-£500, you could try the freezer trick. But may take a few goes to get all the data if you're lucky.

Data isn't that important, just frigging annoying as it has all of my music on it. The hard drive has had VERY little use and has spent most of it's life in the cupboard. Tried the freezer trick and didn't work. It is really weird though because when you first plug it in the pc recognises it's there and you can see all the data it just won't let you access any of it and locks up.

That's because there's a table of contents at the start of the hard drive telling it where every bit of data is on the drive, bit like a map.  It's the rest of the drive it's struggling to read.

I thought that, but it will let you access one of the folders then just locks. Anyhow, probably just best to forget about it because the more I think about it the more frustrated I get with the fecking thing and want to throw it outta the window!  :laugh:
