tonight i noticed if the ignition is off and the key is out, the brake lights still come on if i put my foot on the brake pedal,
is this normal??
-
No, should only come on at second position on the ignition. No idea what would cause it though, sorry!
-
mines always done this as well, dunno why but never really cared about it so didnt investigate :P
-
Probs an earth somewhere that is supplying power direct from your battery rather than through your ignition when switched off. Dunno which one it will be but no doubt something along these lines. Only other suggestion is your ignition switch not turning off properly. Does your steering lock engage?
-
Its normal for the brake lights do come on without the ignition on as far as i know all cars do this
-
Some cars do, some don't.
Volkswagens do. Sean, yours will.
Fords don't.
-
I beg to differ! Tried mine yesterday as I have a little rust bubbling just under the rear n/s light. Took it off to have a look how bad it was, and after putting it back on and connecting up, I had to turn ignition to second position to get the lights working. :smug:
-
Something wrong with yours then.
Got an aftermarket alarm or something?
All four of my MK3's and both my dads T4 and VW LT with the same era of electrics all do it. As did works MK4.
:)
-
don't quote me but I believe reverse lights are the same too?
-
Ok I've just been out to check, and I appologise for my smugness, and I stand corrected. :embarassed:
Brake lights, and side lights come on without the need for the key to be in place. Reverse lights do not though.
-
its normal dude
-
duly corrected

okay cheers everyone, wasnt really that worried about it, just wanted to know if it was normal, thanks for the info
