This afternoon I replaced some dash bulbs.
I changed the bulb in the headlight switch which had blown.
I tested afterwards and all worked well.
Next was the heater panel bulb, I swapped this over and then put the dash back together.
But this time when I turned the ignition on I now have no dash illumination at all!!
All the switches and the speedo/dials are in darkness.
I checked fuse 21 - dash lights and this was fine.
Any other ideas?

Knocked the dimmer switch? Wouldn't be the first! :lipsrsealed:
-
Lol, no dimmer switch is set to max brightness...
-
I've also noticed that when I turn the headlight switch to on the Hazard light button lights up for a fraction of a second before going out again...
-
Now fixed!
Wel sort of...
It appears that VW sold me the wrong or a duff bulb (certainly the new and old bulbs look the same) for the heater dials that must have been tripping everything else out when I turned the headlights on.

so you just changed the bulb? I have a similar problem on mine but as I also got smoke from the dash (which is now fixed) I assumed I'd shorted something out

my heater pannel lights just stopped working a few months ago so i just carboned all of it lol. needs the chrome knobs though.
got the locations of dials memorised lol.
sorry for bad picture.

Yep, I'd just changed the bulb.
I took the new bulb out and replaced with the blown origninal bulb, re-tested and all the dash lights came back (except for the heater obviosuly...).
