Title: noob question proberbly
Post by: mcgee9t2 on 09 September 2011, 11:26
My sub is in a ported box. but the sub is mounted inside the box about 4 inches inside with a perspects sheet infront of it. was gonna make a custom box and boot build. but just had a thought. Basically. does the perspects make a difference. i.e could i just cut 4 inches off the front of the box? Will try find a pic of the sub in question on myy lunch. cheers

Depends if the perspex area is part of the "sound box" volume.
How much is behind the speaker?

it appears to be in the middle. thats the part i cant figure out if its supposed to be part of the box to give it better sound.

though the perspects is held on by screws so i cant see it being a problem if i remove it and cut the box in half so the sub sits on the top.

Is that the amp on the side?

I assume the silver side is the port?
If so you cant reduce the length of that.

TBH get a decent box sorted.

Yeah amp is on one side. the silver part is the port yes

this was going to be a temp sub but sounds good for how much i bought it for so dont see any point in upgrading. the port wouldnt be reduced no. just the box infront of the sub wpuld be cut off

9 times out of 10 everything you see is relevant to the acoustics on these sort of things. I.e, you will be basically f**king the speaker if you start cutting bits off. That what makes the speaker the speaker, the box the woofer is enclosed in...
