Hi new poster here, I only have a 10 plate MK 6 GT TDI 140 with DSG and hope that possessing such a humble version of the Golf still allows me to post on such a presdigious forum!
I have an RNS 510 Ver C with Video in Motion and want to treat myself to a reversing camera to view via the RNS screen.
I see my options include an external aftermarket camera or the OEM version which replaces the existing boot handle.
The price differential between the two units (external & built in) is not inconsequential and I was hoping to hear from anyone who has either camera option, the pros and cons of each and perhaps some months down the line, whether you remain pleased you invested in the camera rather than reversing sensors.
Finally, can anyone recommend a company or respected forum member who might be abble to source, fit and code such a camera for me at a reasonable price?, I'm based in Hertfordshire. Thanks

Hi mate, welcome to the forum. I think everyone who has the camera loves it, I know a few people have retro fitted but I think mainly the OEM version.
I have the camera (factory fitted) and the version C RNS and I love it, I would be lost without it.

Welcome
I have the camera which was retrofitted and also the RNS510 LED version (I take it that means C version?) also retrofitted. Both items are brilliant but the camera is a real gem piece of equipment, you really must go for the OEM one, I got mine through mortygt140 at a good price and he came across and fitted both it and the camera which I got from SteveP also a good price. You will need to bang your posts up to 10 before you can send them a PM tho.

I have it and it would be one of the first options on any future cars. I've had it for 2 years from the factory without any problems.
I've been driving my dads car a lot recently which has made me realise just how much I depend on it.

Thank you Jim, Gizzy & P3asa for your feedback. Whilst the rear badge version is my preferred choice, I was worried about its additional potential to break/get stuck etc, that doesn't appear to be the case so I'll use my negotiating skills to see where best to get it fitted.
Thanks Gizzy for letting me know about the minimum post PM rule, I'll either have to get my posts up or if either MortyGT140 or SteveP see this and would be interested in the work, please feel free to PM me.
Thanks
Andy

Both those guys are often about so im sure they will see this post sooner or later.
SteveP often sells the complete retro fit kits on ebay too but you may get a better price direct.

I have a couple available at present, one for the Mk5/6 and one a the Scirocco, let me know if your interested

Thanks for the E bay link Snoopy, and yes SteveP if you have capacity to supply/fit and code the camera I would like to agree a price/date and time with you. I see you're not too far from me too as I'm in Hertfordshire.
As I am not able to PM you via the forum yet, I do have a long standing Ebay account and will send you a message via Ebay to take matters forward.
Help given by all so far much appreciated.

Got your message will drop you an email later.
I am in Northamptonshire so not too far from you

Go for it Andy I promise you will not be disappointed.

Not many people have a camera up their rectum. I am told it is an interesting and envigorating experience.

By way of the power of this forum, I am arranging to meet SteveP this weekend to have my rear end enhanced!
I'll provide feedback on the benefits (and the customary picture) next week

Mr P is wonderful. I'll be meeting him next week to get my front end winking.

The rear camera is one of the best low cost factory options you can go for.
I think it was £155 when I got it - and its the one that impresses most people in the car!
I have the parking sensors and the camera - but find the camera much more useful. I haven't heard of any breaking yet (touch wood) and with its ability to hide itself away, it never gets filthy (like most cameras that are built into the number plate lights).
I realise you won't be getting a retrofitted one for anything like £155... probably more like £455 - but its still a great addition.
Incidentally - what does the Scirocco one look like? Is it a badge camera? I thought the Roc had a much smaller badge on the back.

Rocco one fit into the bumper like this: -

Andy will be getting a RVC tomorrow

Awesome bit of kit, me and the wife both use my car and the camera really comes in useful,
My badge camera is in my mk5 golf with the RNS510 C and has never let me down
You wont regret having it fitted especially getting Steve to do the job, top guy

Met up with SteveP earlier and in less than 48 hours since raising the thread, I am now the proud owner of a rear badge reversing camera.
Whilst I shall be spending the rest of the weekend driving backwards to test it out, I would like add to the existing plaudits of SteveP's skills.
Steve has a massive knowledge of all things VW and went beyond the call of duty to skillfully undertake the fitting work despite my constant stream of questions whilst he was trying to work. He also checked my car via the VCDS (?) and put my mind at rest that I didn't have any other nasty gremlins in terms of outstanding error codes. Ultimately, he cares about the work in hand which perhaps wouldn't be the case if it was just another job for a technician in the local VW garage.
Thanks again SteveP for all your help and to those who kindly contributed to this thread.

Well done you, knew you'd be a happy man once you got your rear sorted

How much trim needs to come out of the interior to fit one of these? I can pick one up from Germany for just over £300 and have been meaning to get one for about 2 years!!
-
I remove the following: -
Headunit Surround
Fuse Box Cover
Lower A Pilar Trim
Inner Door Sill Trims (front and Rear)
Upper C Pilar Trim
Parcel Shelf Support
Inner boot lid trim
Tailgate lower trim
Tailgate window trim
-
Stevep,
is there a camera available for the brand new Tiguan 2?
Greetings Ron

99% sure the one I already have created the template for on the Tiguan 1 will work. Just waiting to get access to one to confirm.

Not as bad as I'd dreaded, no headlining to touch for instance!
Mind you, when I fitted my RNS half of the surround clips broke!!
