Title: Vancouvers. Anyone after a set?
Post by: dubber36 on 07 September 2011, 16:32
I want one, and I'm sure there will be others after a single one as well, but at over £400 for a single new one, they are a bit on the pricey side.

However, a set of 4 is currently for sale on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-VW-Vancouver-18-Alloy-Wheels-And-Tyres-/110735888812?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Rims_Car_Wheels_ET&hash=item19c85f91ac and I thought it may be an idea to see if the seller would sell them separately if he had 4 genuine buyers lined up.

I don't want to lay out the money for all 4 and then have to sell them on, but if there were 3 other people interested, I would be happy to try and arrange the deal. It could be win, win, as he will get his price, and we get a new wheel at a realistic price.

I'm after a set of 4 wheels for Winter Wheels and Geez those are expensive, so if you find a deal with 5 in, might be able to go dutch with you!

I don't think anyone will be selling a set of 5, as the cars never came with an alloy spare.

Mines got a full sized alloy spare.

Really? Cool.

I'm pretty sure I've got a 16" steel spare. I'll go and have a look when I get a chance.

Hmm, how much extra did you pay for that then?

I was considering it and used to drive around in my mk5 with a full size steel, but the lack of boot space with an alloy would to be so bad its not worth it.

The Americans get full size spares. The boot floor is raised to 4motion levels with foam inserts. These inserts allow you to store things under the boot carpet.

Wow £70 delivery!!!
Title: Re: Vancouvers. Anyone after one?
Post by: dubber36 on 08 September 2011, 20:32
Yes they are expensive and the delivery is a joke, but split 4 ways they would work out at less than £250 each including a half decent tyre. When you consider that a new one is over £400, for someone (like me) who has been looking for months for a single wheel, it could be worthwhile.

Wouldn't you be better off buying a set of cheap 17's for winters? Scruffy Monzas in need of a refurb would be my choice as the tyres would be cheaper.

Over £400 for one?  I bought a brand new one for £318 from the dealer.  They did say they gave me 25% discount but I phoned a few dealers if I remember and they were all saying the same price of £318

Have you tried the dealer you got the car from? They are more likely to do you a deal.

The dealer quoted me £470 inc VAT, so I rang TPS and they quoted £441.

I did see a single one on VW Parts Depot ebay shop for £275 a while back. I went back a couple of days later, but it had gone.

Yep, or even 16's for better traction and cost, struggling to find something I'd be happy with for it though, have trawled all those non-monza wheel threads in this forum and others and the best looking IMO so far are some R32 jobs, but again, tooooo big.  Maybe some seattles, but they're not coming up on ebay much, even less than vancy's.

I was in a national tyre place the other day having my tracking done and the fitter answered a call and more or less told the customer that most if not all winter tyres for the coming winter had already been sold out!!

Done.

I was talking to a mate who works in design for Honda. He reckons they pay £10-£15 per wheel from their suppliers. Like so many car parts, they cost peanuts to make in such high volumes.

The VW Parts Depot wheel was purchased by me, currently on my car looking all shiny. A previous post of mine on this forum was about Vancouver's, single ones do sometimes pop up occasionally but that VW Parts wheel was extremely cheap. I was going to pay £536 to my dealership, incredibly glad I held out and the bay came through.

Too right it was cheap. I should have bought it as soon as I saw it. I hovered over the buy it now button, but being the tight arse that I am, thought I would put it off for a bit longer.

I've got one sorted now (thanks lee). It cost me a bit more, but by the time I get the VAT back, it won't be too bad.

If anyone is interested, I have a set of Vancouvers sitting in my garage that I'll gladly sell seeing as I no longer have a golf to put them on. Looking for £580 without postage, but can meet someone near Edinburgh/ Glasgow area with them.

yes mate, they were but got cheesed off with the usual chancers....would work out a deal and they'd go silent only to reappear and try and renegotiate, so I let it lapse as I'd sooner have them gather dust than deal with that.

Back on topic, all tyres are good and if you remember the ad you will know the condition. some marks that would need attention if you want to them to be perfect. I can email pics to you if you want, but need your address, PM me.
