Title: GearBox Oil
Post by: AlexMozza on 07 September 2011, 15:44
Thinking of changing the oil in my gearbox as I left it out when i serviced it a few weeks back.
What type of oil is it, 75w90? Also how much is required?

Thanks :)

You'll need about 2 litres, I think its 75w 90 although I cant confirm as I cant remember, but pretty sure thats right. Have a look in your handbook if you have one, will tell you there.

I've heard about gearbox treatment but never seen it...anybody ever use such a thing? Was told it helps if ur gears aren't as smooth as they used to be

I would think fresh oil would be as good as anything for rough gears.

Interesting one this as the Haynes Joke Book doesnt actually say anything about changing gearbox oil, it talks about checking it and it talks about changing auto box fluid.

Anybody know what the VW recommended service interval is?
