Title: Top Mounts
Post by: billabong on 07 September 2011, 13:24
Ok, I think my top mounts need replacing.
I've been looking at my options:
Volksbits twin pack of Bearing + Topmount (£20).

OR

2 x 1J0412249 - Bearing (£6.41 each)
2 x 357412331A - Top mount (£13.80 each)
Totalling just over £40.

Is it worth paying twice as much for the OEM parts?

search for febi (which these may be?) and a worthwhile upgrade are vr6 spec mounts if running lower (proper one's not like listed on ebay etc)

£13.95 + £5.65 postage. Tierod69 is an awesome seller for vw parts, cheap as chips and always oem or better quality

these oens are febi if I remember rightly, fitted them to mine a while ago with 40mm lowering and I drive pretty hard, still going as good as new

b.t.w them from tierod are non vr6 spec mounts (they all fit the same, so they are listed fine but there not heavier duty)

Which ones are heavy duty then? I'm in need of new top mounts.

the Tierod ones are VR6 ones aswell, afaik they stopped making seperate ones for vr6 and just made them one type fits all (unless I just made that up but I'm sure I heard it somewhere :P)

I replaced my old vr6 spec ones with these and they seem exactly the same tbh, though I'm not really sure whats different on the vr6 ones? But I got a 1.8t lump in mine and they are doing fine so far

I think VW still sell VR spec ones, the febi ones I bought were one size fits all although this was at ecp so maybe a pat part thing.
VW ones cost a bomb, try gsf or a good VW supplier for VR spec or uprated items

vwspares sell 2 models, one for 92-95 non GTI and VR6 and another is 92-98 GTI & VR6. Would have thought the second one is the heavier duty one. But what VW BUSH said is something I've heard before, all suppliers now make one standard one which is heavy duty.

febi number(s)

01117 Golf 3 (1H1) 1991 - 1997 1H1, , AAA, VR6, 128 (174), 2.8, petrol, hatchback, 01.1992 - 09.1997

01117 Golf 3 (1H1) 1991 - 1997 1H1, , ADY, -, 85 (116), 2.0, petrol, hatchback, 10.1994 - 05.1996 for vehicles with off-road suspension

well they only list 1 mount to fit all models now (and they sound like the uprated version hence the off road suspension bit)

here's the rears
14958 rep. kit suspension strut mount 1992- 1998
