Title: overheating and power steering loss during wet weather
Post by: SoulTaxi on 07 September 2011, 10:49
Hi chaps, my mk2 8v is overheating during wet weather, also the power steering intermittently cuts out. Are there any suggestions as to what this could be?? all temps and steering are normal when it's dry!  slipping belts maybe?? any help would be greatly appreciated!! cheers!

Yup the power steering is likely to be caused by a slipping belt, are you getting any squeel too? Might be worth giving it a little tighten. Not a clue about overheating in the wet though!

IIRC the pas and waterpump are on the same belt so if it's slipping that would explain it.

Ah yeah that's right, would make sense now! How bad would it have to be slipping to cause overheating issues though?!

It wouldn't take much, as if the belt starts to slip when driving then obviously all water will stop moving and just heat up with no where to go.

This. Had exactly the same problem when I bought my mk2. It overheated badly.

Check the belt!
