hi,which one is best is there much in performance as 4motions are cheap now im thinking of swapping one for my focus with the wifes permission,i want to know which will be best on fuel i know they are both 2.8 but i would of thought the mk3 would be lighter
-
Mk3 lighter and FWD. Mk4 AWD (although not all the time) Mk4 will lose more power and more MPG through the transmission. Mk4 will probably come with leather/xenons/climate etc.
However mk3's are gay and mk4's are the best.
-
i wouldn't say mk3's are gay i have a vr6 and i love it,i have always liked mk3's thats just my opinion, but i also like mk4's im just thinking off getting a 4motion aswell so the misses can drive the vr6
-
I'm just joking fella!
4motion may be useful in bad weather too...
-
ha ha you got me there i thought you were serious
-
why not find a vr6 syncro? (there a few being imported and running rhd conversions)
-
i would mate but my focus id an 05 plate so would want to get a 02-03 onwards 4motion,the syncros will probs be alot older and i would imagine they are dear as there rarer,or better still find a write off r32 lol
-
mk4 has more bhp, 4wd which i miss so much  nicer looks. 6speed box.
mk4 4mo all day long over the mk3 vr
-
The 4Mo is 200 bhp standard but can be mapped to near R32 spec with next to no modding, however, as said before, the so called 4 wheel drive system eats a lot of that power.
The VR6 with £200- £300 of mods will see the 200 bhp mark and sounds soooooo much better than the 4mo
I had a little play with an S3 in my VR the other day and he couldn't catch me, same with the Leon Cupra (Not the 'R')
And I went up against a Zafira VXR...... 1st into 3rd he tanned my arse but by the time I was at 5.5k revs in 3rd, he was dropping into 4th and I was back on his bumper
Love my VR, go buy one now

Well i have owned 2 Mk3 vrs in my 4motion including my mate who is 2 doors down so mk4 is uber win!!!

1.8t 180 with a remap also makes a lot of sense.

+1
vr6 gotta be done
-
4mo= win :smiley:
-
I'd prefer the vr6, but in your circumstances, I'd go 4mo. Everyone is quoting speed etc, but if your missus will be driving it, reliability and comfort would win hands down IMO.
-
i already have a vr6 im thinking of getting a 4mo aswell, but performance wise i dont think there is much in it and i have heard both on youtube and i think the vr does sound better probably because its a 12valve and the 4mo is 24valve

It does indeed mate, bet yer loving the car even more now
-
My cupra r doesn't even put no where near as big smile on my face as the 4mo did,and the cupra r has 70ish more horses. Can't beat the v6 noise.

Just to throw a curveball in, I'm just about to put an A3 2.0tfsi quattro, 5 door, on a 54 plate up for sale if your interested 66k and like brand new, very tidy with full service history, charcoal grey. PM me if your interested....
-
I had a Mk3 VR6 before changing it for a Mk4 4mo last year. The Mk4 is great on the motorway and in the snow, of course.
Everywhere else the Mk3 drove better, the steering was not so over-assisted, and the engine sounded better.
